Hey everyone! So today, I’m going to talk a little bit about music.
Before we get into it, let’s have our moment of silence.
At this time, I would like all of us to take a moment of silence and pray to God to help us to use all of our talents for his glorification. Help us to give everything to him. Take a minimum of 5 minutes and pray for this.
Now back to the show
The mainstream sellout
I was actually looking at the album cover for Machine Gun Kelly’s album Mainstream Sellout.
And I thought, In a way, every hit artist was a mainstream sellout.
The reason is because when you’re on a label, you write and perform what your label wants to hear.
It’s not exactly what you want to make.
I remember when I was reading an interview with Eminem, he actually used to make songs that were clean because he wanted it on the radio.
But when the record labels didn’t like him for who he was, he changed it up and started “selling out” to get what the record label wanted him to write about, in a way.
So what does all of this have to do with the Christian musician?
How this affects the Christian musician
As a Christian musician, we will be faced with selling out at one point in our lives or another.
And it is at this point that we must really draw a sort of line as to what we will accept our music to be and what it shouldn’t be.
And you know, for the most part selling out actually has a negative connotation to it.
And I understand with this.
Because selling out means that you are giving up your passion for money.
You have abandoned your vision for the sake of getting paid.
And even though I understand that decision as well, this isn’t about getting paid.
This is about glorifying the Lord.
The money will come one day.
It may not happen as fast as how you want it to happen, but it will happen one day.
So don’t be in a rush and sellout when you still have options, you never know how close you were to finishing the race.
