Hey guys! Before we get into today’s message, let’s have our moment of silence.

At this time, I would like all of us to take a moment of silence and pray to God to help us to become cheerful givers. Ask God to help us to give in a holy way. Take a minimum of 5 minutes and pray for this.

Now back to the show

Why is it important to give as a Christian?

So just recently I was challenged by this thought.

I’m not going to go into the details as to why because I feel like it’s kind of personal as to why I was challenged by this thought.

But I was challenged because I was saying to myself, am I doing the right thing?

I mean like what does the Bible say about giving to the poor? Or what does the Bible say about giving to the church?

I know it says to give because God finds those kinds of sacrifices pleasing.

But I mean how much should we give? Is there such a thing as too much giving?

So I started looking into this.

And I go by the two person rule.

If two people say something is true, then it must be true.

But not only that, but I also go into the Bible and read bible verses myself, so not only do two people say that it’s true, but the Bible also says that it’s true.

And having God say that something is true is more important than the other two.

So anyways, I was looking up bible verses related to giving, and sure enough it says that we are to give bountifully.

In Deutoronomy God is talking about the poor and he says, “If there be a brethren among you who is poor, you shall open wide your hand in giving and you shall not be sorrowful about it for such sacrifices are pleasing unto the Lord.”

That’s how much we should give.

But now let’s talk about if we’re already poor, should we give?

In 2 Corinthians 9, it talks about a poor church and how they gave a lot of what they had to other Christians who were poor.

And Paul told the other church that was rich that they needed to be like that church. Who Paul thought that they should give more because of their riches.

But no, the poor are the ones who gave the most.

And finally, What got me the most is this, I was watching a video about giving and it states that Jesus spoke many times about going above and beyond what the Old Testament recommends to do.

Whether that be following the rules or doing holy work.

The Lord recommends that we go above and beyond what is recommended in the Old Testament.

So in the Old Testament, you are to give 23.3 percent of your earnings to the tithe and poor people.

But Jesus speaks of going above and beyond what the Old Testament says to do.

And if you can’t, then you have a heart problem.

So really work on your heart to the point where you can give that much if not more away.

God is not slack in his promises, trust me, he is not slack.
