Hey everyone! So today, I’m going to share with you all about the plans that I have for my music career.

Before we get started, let’s have our moment of silence.

At this time, I would like all of us to take a moment of silence and pray to God to give us strength to be holy. Ask God to give us diligent hands to work hard in our projects. Take a minimum of 5 minutes and pray for this.

Now back to the show

Music Diary: Will I choose to sign to a label or not?

Now that my blog is actually getting decent amount of views.

I’m seriously starting to ponder at the fact of me signing to a label or not.

I mean signing to a label means so many things.

And I remember that as a kid, it was my dream to actually get signed to a label.

However, when I got older, I realized that there are plenty of flaws in the music industry.

Which is the reason why I advocate heavily on the fact that all musicians should remain independent and not sign to a label.

Mainly because musicians don’t get paid like they used to when signed to a label.

Back in the day (talking about the 60s, 70s, 80s, and even the early 90s) Bands would get paid a healthy portion of money that they could actually live off through the record labels.

But when people started downloading music illegally, that’s when album sales took a hit.

They even had to make new standards of selling a lot.

Back in the day, if you sold 1,000,000 albums nationally within the span of the first 6 months of the album release, you were considered a Gold selling artist. It was at the 2,.000,000 album mark that you were considered a platinum selling artist.

But now, since that is so difficult to obtain, they lowered the standards.

Now it’s 500,000 albums makes a Gold album and 1,000,000 albums makes a platinum album. Can you imagine that? They had to cut it in half in order to actually present an award.

But not only that, Record labels near abuse the artist.

The record labels understand that the artist has a lot on the line.

From all the criticism that they received for following their dreams, to the actual bills that are piling at home.

The artist has a lot to lose if their record deal doesn’t come through.

Which is the reason why the record labels are near able to scam the artist out of a living.

Even though that artist will make them millions of dollars throughout their lifetime, the labels don’t want to give that kind of power to the artist for I don’t know what reason.

And usually the young artist is so naive that they will choose a bad deal just to get the 400,000 dollars from their bonus.

Though not realizing it, it’s a bad deal.

So hear me out, if a record label is looking at you to sign you, you will know, they will notify you somehow.

And you probably already played some big shows in the past so people will be looking at you.

And trust me, if the label is contacting you trying to sign you, that means that you were already going to take off.

That literally means that you are on the verge of being viral.

So it wouldn’t have mattered if you signed to the label or not, you were going places.

Now this is just me talking here, it’s not fact and it’s not everyone’s perspective.

But the reason why artists sign to a label is because they want the vain metrics.

They want to be on Atlantic records roster and show up everyone. They want to play with the biggest names and have cameras flashing everywhere.

It’s really all vain metrics.

Now there are some people out there who break through the noise but that’s far and few between.

So the answer to that question of whether I want to sign to a label or not, As of right now, I don’t want to.

Mainly because I feel like I know too much about the industry to actually sign with them.

It’s a cold world being a musician but it’s one that we have to play in.

But we’ll see about the future.
