Hey everyone! So today, I’m going to share with you all how I self-promote my music.
Self-promotion 101
So there are actually a lot of ways that you can promote your music on the internet, on t.v. in your local scene.
But obviously the number one way that you can determine what’s best for you is to decide how much money you have to spend and how much work you want to put in.
Either way, regardless of whether or not you want to use paid promotion techniques or not, It’s still a requirement that you work hard.
So hard work is going to happen no matter what.
The free ways often will take longer to see results than the paid ways, but when you’re a starving artist, what else do you got to lose?:
Anyways, here is the way that I promote and I’ll also share some paid promotion techniques and some other techniques as to how people promote their own music.
I blog

There is without a doubt that blogging is one of the biggest ways that musicians today can get their name out there in the local scene.
Well not only the local scene, but also the national and international scene as well.
And blogging to gain attention to your music is actually not that difficult.
The only thing you need to do is to focus on creating great quality content around your music and about your personal interests and boom you would have created a great marketing plan for your music.
There are some other aspects to blogging that I haven’t talked about.
You have to create a visually appealing website, put it on google search console, and if you promote it a little bit on social media’s it wouldn’t hurt.
But like 80% of all the work that you need to do is to create quality content and just hit publish every single day.
I know it sounds like a lot but it’s the same method that everyone on the internet has used since the rise of social media’s.
So just write articles and hit publish every single day, and you have a really good chance of getting somewhere with your blog.
It takes a long time though.
There is a website called Ghost.org and in it, it says that if you blog like how you should, you will see a successful blog within 2 to 4 years.
And I actually think that, that’s a really good description of how long it takes to be successful at a blog.
Right now, I am only 3 and a half years into the blog and I am getting around 200 and 400 views a month to my blog, I’m getting around 200 to 300 clicks a month and 7,000 impressions per month.
Well this month I have 8,000 impressions but you get the gist.
And my numbers are growing.
Just recently, I hit close to my highest number of impressions I’ve ever done in a day 4 times.
So I think that Ghost.org was actually right on the money with the 2 to 4 year timeframe for becoming a successful blog.
YouTube

YouTube is actually very similar to a blog in the sense that you need to create great content and they will show you to more people.
Now this is just me thinking here and it’s not like Google telling me this and it’s not anyone saying anything but I think that the reason why Google and YouTube do this is because they need fresh content to fill their search engines.
And if everyone in the entire internet stopped posting content because there was nothing in it for them, then Google and YouTube would be obsolete.
And there wouldn’t be a need for them.
Which is the reason why Google and YouTube promote your content to the top of the page if you just create great content.
Paid methods
Paying for promotion is a lot riskier and carries a lot of weight.
Blogging and YouTube is next to free.
But paying for flyers and business cards and advertisements is a lot riskier and can hurt you more than do good.
At one point it would be a good idea to pay for advertisements, but when you first start out, I would highly NOT recommend it.
Because there are so many uncertainties in the music game and if you were to start paying for advertisements when let’s face it you’re an amateur? It doesn’t make sense.
So when you first start out, try and do the free methods at first and I know it’s painful and takes a long time to succeed and I know it’s a slice of humble pie, but you need to really start your fanbase like that.
