Hey everyone! So today, I’m going to share with you all a music marketing plan that I thought you could follow because really it’s the music marketing plan that I followed for the last 4 years and believe it or not, it actually works.
So without further ado, let’s talk about it.
The creation of your music marketing plan
So the first thing that you should do is identify who is your audience.
Now when I say to identify who is your audience, I mean who is the majority of your audience. It’s not those outliers that you’re looking for, you’re looking for those majority.
If you could imagine around 60 to 90% of all the people who like your music that’s the people that you should identify as your niche.
There is even a saying in the business world that if you could identify what exactly these people would be wearing.
From the hat that they wear to the clothes that they are wearing, then you know exactly who you are supposed to be targeting.
The after you have a good sense of who you will be targeting, then we go into the next phase.
The actual writing down of the plan.
First step do your market research
This goes hand in hand with the whole identify who you will be targeting.
But also this goes with finding where your people are hanging out on the internet.
Find out where the people that you are targeting hang out in person.
This way, you will find where to place your advertisements and blog posts and videos at.
This also gives you a good idea as to the type of content that you should be making.
Now in the music industry this goes into a different place

So as a musician, it’s a little different than promoting a brick and mortar retail location.
Because what happens is that the most powerful tool that we can use to promote music is to perform live shows.
And what happens is that not every club or venue that we go to will like our sound or who we are.
Therefore, we as musicians must go to places that we can perform that will like us.
Specifically as a Christian musician, we have to go to places where they will like us.
I’ll give you the spot where Christian musicians usually thrive at, coffee shops.
It’s a great acoustic setting and open mics are there quite a good bit of times.
And if you’re in a big city, I know for a fact that coffee shops are almost always filled with open mics.
So do with what you got and what you got will take care of itself.
However, that dynamic has changed a little bit as well.
Because as musicians we now have access to the internet and the internet is a good way to build rapport with your audience.
The internet is a good way to connect with your fans and make super fans.
It’s also a good way to bring in more fans and share with fans where you’ll be doing a show and what not.
Now it’s time for the actual promotion
The next step is to write out what you will do to gain fans and a traction to your music.
Here is a list of tried and true methods that musicians over the last decade have used in order to come out with a good following.
- Perform shows
- Write blog posts
- Create videos
- Develop a social media following
- And don’t give up
So what happens is that performing shows helps, but it also helps to have a couple of social handles so that when people want to look you up, you just refer to them to your social media accounts.
And developing a social media following isn’t that hard but requires patience and time.
So like a social media following just takes for you to create posts and blog posts and tweets and facebook posts to gain a following.
That’s all it takes.
If you do those things, then you will gain a following.
It takes time and effort but keep at it and you will go far.
