Music production skills that you should master if not learn enough that you can get by. Let’s talk about it
Guitar

The ability to play the guitar is not needed to be a music producer, but it’s highly favored.
The guitar introduces a rhythmic element to the song that is just unique.
I’m pretty sure somewhere there is a software that can replicate the way a guitar sounds.
But I will be honest with you, my guitar skills really do sound good when it comes to producing music.
It sounds fine tuned and unique.
And I just think and feel that a producer should at least be able to play a few simple chord progressions with the guitar.
If not make a whole rhythmic phrase with the guitar.
Guitar work translates well into bass lines because the bass guitar is very similar to the six string.
The technique that you will learn to play on the guitar can translate to the bass as well and the bass is an instrument that I would highly highly recommend learning as a music producer.
As a music producer, we are often in charge of making tracks that accompany what the songwriter is writing about.
So having the bass in your bag of tricks really will enhance your profitability as a music producer.
They say that the bass line is what gets the crowd moving, so get your bass lines grooving.
Piano

Every producer needs to know how to play the piano.
There are so many tools related to the music producer that revolves around the piano that honestly if you don’t know how to play the piano, it’s like can you even produce?
The piano is a very simple way to learn keys and create melodies and you can create bass lines on there too.
The Piano is also highly favored amongst songwriters because they introduce another rhythmic element that is so beautiful.
If you’ve been producing for a while, you’ll know that there is a tool that every producer should use and it’s called a midi.
And what a midi is, is it’s a small piano that you can manipulate in various manners.
It’s really cool to be honest with you.
Mixing

You’re going to run into it at one point or another.
But your mixing game has to be on point in order to actually go far as a music producer.
Mixing music requires attention to detail.
And it takes practice to hear the nuances of every single detail in the song.
Sometimes you’re going to have mud in the mix that you’re going to have to figure out how to get rid of it.
Other times you’re going to have to be creative in your mixing decisions that will play a big role in how the song ends up.
If you don’t know how to mix, there is a plethora of great music mixing certificates that are non accredited on the internet and you can learn from there.
They are not going to help you land a job, but they will give you the right skills you need in order to actually mix for yourself.
So yeah, get to mixing.
