How to learn the core fundamentals of music?

Hey everyone! So today, I’m going to share with you all how to learn the barebones basics of music.

Let’s get into it. 

How much do music lessons cost? 

Music lessons, I will not lie, are actually kind of expensive. 

Even the cheapest of lessons would cost you a lot of money. 

I remember when I got out of high school, my guitar teacher actually recommended that I would go into teaching guitar. 

And I was like, “how much do you think I should charge?” 

And she said, “Between 20 and 25 dollars per half an hour”

And honestly, I was surprised because that’s between 40 and 50 dollars an hour. 

So that means that if I work hard enough, I could possibly earn a 6 figure income. 

Which honestly, boosted my moral a lot. 

She said, Just pick up students here and there and in time you’ll get a lot of money. 

Now, I actually looked up how much the top music teachers were making in my area and they were around that ball park. 

Some of them were making around 80,000 dollars a year. 

Which is not a 6 figure income, but it’s still ridiculously good. 

And my guitar teacher said that just by having my High School diploma and amazing guitar skills, I could make around 40 to 50 dollars an hour. 

Yes I would take that any day. 

With that being said, I know how much music lessons cost. 

Because in all reality, the recommendation for learning an instrument is to get between 3 and 4 hour long lessons a week. 

So just three hours alone at a beginner guitar teacher rate would cost you around 150 dollars a week. 

Which would equate to 600 dollars a month. 

Yes that’s very expensive and not a lot of people can afford that, even some people who are well off might not be able to afford that. 

With that also being said, here are some cheap alternatives to lessons. 

YouTube Videos and Music Videos

So if you go into your local music store, I have without a doubt in my mind that there will be tons of books and videos that teach how to gain amazing guitar and music skills. 

Personally, I taught myself how to play and read the piano.

Of course, I had a few years of music experience before I did that, but still I learned how to read sheet music from piano and play it. 

Through books and videos that I saw on YouTube. 

And honestly, piano is one of the easiest and most useful instruments that you could possibly learn. 

It literally doesn’t hurt to learn the piano, unlike the guitar where your hands cramp and hurt with the strings, It has 8 octaves, and many great songs were written on the piano. 

You could start with a keyboard which would cost you around 120 dollars and then work your way to a guitar so you have a great foundation in music. 

But if you really want to learn guitar and bass, then pick up a guitar and bass and just pick up a book on how to learn guitar and bass and learn from there. 

Look up videos on YouTube on how to do different things if you really don’t understand it. 

 Because even if you were to take lessons on how to play an instrument, it’s still a lot of independent study. 

You would still need to watch a ton of videos and read a ton of music books to be able to learn how to do all of the details in music. 

And if I’m quite frank with you, the way that a lot of music teachers teach music is by buying the guitar books that you would buy from the music store and just guiding you through reading the book. 

So like, yeah. 

Lol, just remember that there are cheap alternatives and even in the 60s when people didn’t have internet, they still taught themselves how to play the instruments.
