How to know if I’ve made a great song?

Hey everyone! So today, I’m going to share with you all how to identify the characteristics of a great song and how to know when you’ve made that song. 

Let’s get into it. 

Lyrically

There are quite a few different approaches when it comes to making lyrics. 

Some people really say that making great lyrics is all about the depth of the lyrics and how well you are able to use imagery and your senses to describe what’s going on in the song. 

But there are others who write in plain style and they do their best to talk to someone when they are writing lyrics. 

So honestly, at this point, it’s all about the message that you’re trying to convey. 

Some people like to leave an air of mystery in their song so that the audience can decipher it for themselves. 

Others are more direct with their lyrics and their intention to write lyrics. 

Just remember the golden rule in songwriting, if it sounds good, it is good. 

Production wise

There is a saying that goes around on the internet. 

Keep it simple. 

And honestly, that’s the motto of the musician. 

Keep it simple and write in the way that you can write. 

Don’t try and overcomplicate the things that are already sounding good. 

If you find that you think 2 layers sound better than 3, it’s okay not to stack layer upon layer just because most pop musicians “THINK” it sounds good. 

Even professional musicians will at time bring it down a notch in order to really bring the song to life. 

Vocal wise

When it comes to vocals, each individual sounds amazingly different than the next. 

Each person has gone through different things in life that honestly shape their voices and make them sound completely different than the next person. 

But there are some general guidelines to follow when it comes to voice. 

The guidelines are rhythm and pitch. 

Does the rhythm go well with the rest of the song? Is the note selection what the song craves for?

These are the things you really have to consider when it comes to the voice. 

Overall

The overall best tip that I can share with you is that if it sounds good, it is good. 

There have been songs that are so simple that they sound like another song and it probably does. 

Just the main rule is that if it sounds good, it is good. Remember that and you will go far better than most musicians out there.
