Can we be a Christian and a musician at the same time?

Hey everyone! So today, I’m going to talk about a topic that is kind of difficult to explain for a couple of reasons. 

For one, why can’t a musician also be a Christian? We can all be Christian musicians right? 

Well there are a few reasons why someone might think that it’s impossible to actually be a Christian musician at the same time. 

In this blog post we’ll talk about it. 

Why not?

So what happens is that music is very diverse and entails a lot of aspects from all sorts of musical backgrounds. 

Including Rap, Rock, Country, Hip-hop, Reggaeton, Pop. 

And what happens is that it’s actually really good practice to play and sing and perform all sorts of styles of music. 

Whether that’s Rap or Rock or Country or Hip-hop, it’s actually very good practice to being able to rap a whole song from start to finish. 

Or play the guitar to some of your favorite songs. 

And what happens is that there are so many technically advanced themes in music in Pop music, (Pop here means anything mainstream), That many Christians are sometimes forced to play songs that are not Christian in order to develop the technical skills needed to be a great musician. 

And then one thing leads to the next and eventually you lose your way in the Lord. 

I remember personally when I first started the guitar, I had my heart set on playing music for the Lord and not using any music for myself. 

But then I dove head first into rock and rap and what happens is that I remember thinking to myself one day, “I’m going to use music to get rich and famous.” 

And I remember those days. 

And I remember that I was thinking to myself, “But how was I supposed to gain the technical skills to play amazing things if I never played them on different songs? 

So, what happens is that often times Rap and Rock have things that are in contrary to a Christian’s beliefs, I don’t think that, that’s a big shock to anyone. 

But there was so much musical value to a musician if you were to learn from those two aspects of music that I just couldn’t ignore it. 

So this is where I say, can a Christian also be a musician? 

The answer is yes

Yes absolutely a Christian can be a musician.

So what I learned and my mom told me this a long time ago, I just didn’t quite understand it until now. 

What happens is that the devil can use whatever is good by God and pervert it to make it something that is not for him. 

And music is no different. 

The original design for music was to worship and adore God.

It wasn’t to make money off of it or to adore oneself with it. 

And the fact that I fell into the temptation of using music for vain purposes, only means that I’m human. 

Afterall the devil was a musical being, why wouldn’t he use music to his advantage to lure people away from God? 

It only makes sense that I fell into that. 

But the thing is now, I’m using music to honor God. 

And only honor God. 

I’ve started to forget how to play those old songs that I used to play, but God will give me strength to become the great musician that I was supposed to become.
