Hey everyone! So today, I’m going to define what my ideal home studio setup looks like.

Let’s talk about it.

Musicians setup 101

So what is the ideal setup and how can we do it at an affordable rate?

In reality, it takes a lot of money to record and produce music.

Like the equipment on it’s own is relatively inexpensive, but it can get costly.

I remember one time I told the price of one of the softwares that I wanted from Guitar Center and I told it to my dad and he said, “Honestly, that’s cheap for software that’s supposed to make a lot of money.”

Because he was comparing that software to CAD for engineers or other similar software.

But like overall the equipment is cheaper for what equipment should cost, but it’s still expensive for the home musician to spend on something that might not work.

Anyways, here are some of the things that I would have in my home studio if I could have it that way.

Headphones and speakers

So what happens is that it is ideal that you have studio monitors and studio headphones with your gear.

The reason for the headphones is that you can hear small annoying things that get in the way of the mix easier in the headphones than you do on speakers.

You can clean up a track a lot easier with headphones than you can with speakers.

However the reason for the speakers is that you need to be able to hear how an actual track sounds like.

Not what bass boosted tracks sound like.

Because what happens is that even though headphones are good for hearing the small things that make the song sound bad, it’s not good for giving it a true sound.

It is bass boosted so that means that the music is altered.

You need to hear the music through a flat system, which is through studio monitors.

So the Studio monitors that I would use are either Yamaha HS5s or HS7s or maybe some JBL’s

I’ve actually never mixed on JBL’s but supposedly they are one of the best speakers out on the market.

I think some JBL’s cost around 600 dollars per speaker and you need a minimum of 2 speakers for the home studio setup.

So Yamaha HS5s or HS7s and Audio Technica’s line of Headphones.

If you’re familiar with Audio Technica, they make the most affordable and best studio headphones out on the market.

They are always sold out at Guitar Center.

I think that they are the preferred choice for most sound engineers.

Interface and computer

Now it’s time for what you’re going to be recording on.

The interface that I would want is either a Studio one interface, or a Scarlett’s brightl.

The only problem is that I would want an interface that could record a lot of acoustic noise at the same time

I would preferably want to figure out a way to connect all of the interfaces I would have so that I could record multiple things at one time.

Some people record around 2 or 3 tracks for a guitar at a time, it helps with the layers.

I know it’s possible, they do it all the time at recording studios.

The computer that I would have would Ideally be a Mac, but if I’m on a budget, a PC will do as well. Preferably a Dell.

And the specifications that I would have with the computer is that it would have 2 terabytes of Hard drive or SSD, 16 GB Ram, and at least an I7 processor preferably an I9.

The reason for these high specifications is that music takes a lot of power and resources from a computer in order to run efficiently.

Software

Either Studio One or FL Studio.

Honestly, I really liked the way FL Studio is.

They are so easy to work with and there are so many resources on how to do different things on FL Studio.

Studio One is great don’t get me wrong, it’s just that I often found trouble finding what I was looking for when looking up help resources.

I remember spending days just looking up one thing.

Anyways, that’s my take on it.
