Hey everyone! So today, I’m going to share with you all some of the instruments that you should learn as an independent musician.

Let’s talk about it.

So every instrument is good to learn

So what happens is that often, we producers want a musician who can play the things that we are singing in our head.

Therefore, we would literally need to learn every instrument known to man so that we can replicate those sounds.

But of course, that’s not possible.

Even learning most of the instruments in western culture is difficult.

You need to buy the instrument and then spend time practicing it.

Which is where some modern tools come in handy.

And these modern tools are actually simplified into a few instruments.

Let’s talk about this

Piano

Ahh the Piano.

Almost all fully produced music on an album that you’ve ever heard had one of these somewhere in there.

The piano also takes the shapes of Synthesizers.

So if you know how to play a Piano, you in a sense know how to play a Synthesizer.

It has such a diverse range of notes that you can play.

It can play chords, bass lines, and melodies.

The piano. I must highly recommend that if you’re a musician, that you should learn how to play one of these.

The reason is because there are so many applications to the piano that are honestly used everywhere in music.

You can make a song without a guitar, You can even make a song without a bass guitar.

But the piano almost always adds something valuable to the mix. Whether that’s rhythm or harmony.

And also, once you get into production. The Piano can also be used to create drum parts.

On a MIDI, sometimes the Piano can be used to play the Drum parts.

So yeah.

I actually use a DAW right now that has me using my piano as a drum kit.

The guitar

So you don’t need a guitar in a song, however, it adds a rhythm to the song that is deep.

If you layer your guitars, it sounds really amazing too.

So I would recommend learning how to play both the piano and the guitar so that you can really compete with other people in the music production world.

The guitar will also teach you how to make great leads and great melodies on an instrument.

It adds harmony and develops a nice line to accompany the track with.

The bass guitar

The bass guitar, piano, drums, and guitar are all rhythm instruments.

And when you make a song, you honestly should be making most of your instruments rhythm aspects for the skeleton of the song so that you can sing your melodies over those rhythm parts.

I know some of you are probably saying, “German, what about that metal band that plays awesome riffs, what about those guys?”

This is true that they do play those things. But if you ever notice that when the verses come in, they are always playing rhythm, even the lead guitarists.

So when you play the bass, it helps to develop a groove and rhythm that makes the song sound balanced and dancy.

Some people say that the bass is what makes the people dance in the crowd.

The drums

Now, I’m not going to say that the drums aren’t important because they most certainly are important.

Again they establish a groove and a rhythm to the song.

But to be honest, if you establish yourself and listen to a lot of music, and learn some drum basics, you will actually learn how to make your own drums without learning how to actually play the drums.

Practice listening to music and listening to the drum parts to see what exactly the drums do so that you can go out there and make your own drums.

But I must warn, that learning how to compose music of any kind really requires careful dedication to it.

And you’re going to take time and a lot of time to do it.
