I was Copyrighted upon

Hey everyone! So today, I’m going to share with you all something that I think I should talk about as a musician.

Let’s talk about this. 

I was teaching how to make a guitar solo

So what happened was that I was teaching in my video how to make a guitar solo.

And what happened was that I had actually posted this video almost 2 years ago and nothing happened. 

And finally just today, I actually got a notification from Facebook saying that UMG (Universal Music Group) actually claimed my video and they said that I was stealing their music. 

The song that I was supposedly copyrighting was Someday My Prince Will Come by Joe Pass. 

And I did not copyright anything, I just used techniques that every musician uses. Including Joe Pass. 

I just showed an A minor scale and Joe Pass had a run in it that was an A minor scale. They cannot copyright a scale. I was very specific, they cannot copyright a scale.

and you know what they did? 

They then offered me 20% of all revenue generated from my video. 

I should not pay anything to them because it’s my video and I did not copyright infringe anything. I just showed an A minor scale. That’s it. 

I will admit that it did sound similar, 

But you cannot copyright a scale, if that’s the case, then that means that musicians cannot use the tools that are tried and true with music. 

That means that you cannot use the I IV vi V chord progression, that means that you cannot ascend and descend in your melodies, that means that you cannot use 4/4 in any new compositions. 

If UMG decides to copyright infringe upon me, then they are copyrighting every music concept that there is and therefore, no one except UMG can use those concepts. 

That includes Indie Musicians, Indie Labels, Warner Brothers, Sony, that means that none of them can use it.

All I can say is that they can try their best to fill their roster with great talent that people will like without hearing their best materials.
