Hey everyone! So today, I’m going to share with you all some essentials for songwriting as a Christian musician.
Let’s get started.
The Bible

So this goes kind of without say, but the Bible is necessary to keep around because that way you draw inspiration from the Bible to influence your music.
Sometimes even when you’re making a song and you’re drawing inspiration from the Bible, it can turn into a whole bible study because you’re just reading so much bible.
But the Bible is essential to keep around because it also keeps your lyrics within God.
If you keep God in your focus, you will create great lyrics that are biblically sound.
Prayers

Every time I start a journey, I start it with God.
I always make sure that before I begin a project or work, that I pray to God to help me to work hard and to be swift and intelligent in my actions.
It’s absolutely essential that we are consulting with God before we do anything because ultimately that’s the way that God wants it.
We pray to God before anything and everything.
That’s the holy way.
Journal and recorder for songwriting

These are some practical, time and tested ways that we are supposed to write a song.
We need a journal so that we can have a way to record ourselves and have a way to write down lyrics.
I think every musician has had “Forgotten the best lyrics known to man syndrome.”
Where we create the best lyrics ever heard and never sung but we forget it because we didn’t write it down. It’s true, it happens but we can avoid this syndrome by just writing down the lyrics that we think about.
Another thing that comes in handy is a tape recorder.
Well nowadays we have cell phones to record audio, but back in the day we used recorders to record what we sung and heard in our head as a melody.
It comes in handy when making melodies. So we can capture the essence of a melody.
An instrument

So what happens is that we need an instrument sometimes to hear out different chord progressions or melodies.
An instrument can make for a good accompaniment too so you can have harmony.
Sometimes and as a matter of fact I should say most of the times and I’m talking like 90% of the times, we’re supposed to write down music through work and dedication.
It’s actually really difficult to make a song out of inspiration, therefore, most of your songs are going to be through work.
So having to sit down with an instrument and your voice are going to be the case for most of your songs.
Last but not least, a platform to sell it on

So of course, you have your song and you want to sell it.
The problem is that you don’t know who to sell it to and your friends don’t want to buy your songs.
The good news is that the whole world is your oyster.
What you can do is start promoting your music on your blog and Facebook and Twitter and whatever other social medias that there are.
And then just create good quality content revolving around your music and life.
And in a few years time, you will have a following.
It’s not that hard.
However, I must say, that it does take patience.
It takes a long time to actually develop a following, it’s not an overnight thing.
