Hey everyone! So today, I’m going to share with you all how to excel at music.

Let’s get started.

Take time for God

So what happens is that there are different levels to being good at something.

You can be good at it, you can be great at it, and you can be excellent at it.

In bible study, we were actually talking about what it means to be excellent at something.

We were specifically referring to what does it mean to be an excellent Christian?

And what happens is that the Bible describes excellence as perfection.

When you are excellent at something, it means that you are perfect at it.

However, God wants you to be great at everything that you do, but the one thing that he wants you to be excellent at, is his relationship with him.

If there is one thing in this life that you need to be excellent at, it’s your relationship with him.

I actually didn’t know this when I first started music, I thought to myself be excellent in all that I do.

But the problem with being excellent in all that you do, is that the things that you’re excellent at can consume your life.

And I remember when I was playing the guitar and starting out playing instruments, that I would play a whole lot of guitar and let the other areas in my life slide.

Specifically the area with God in it.

I would let God not be the priority in my life.

And that’s not excellent.

That’s letting something become your god other than the Lord Jesus.

So, the first thing that you should do when being excellent in music is have your excellent relationship with God first.

Everything else will fall in place if you do so.

So set some time for God every single day of your life so that you are consumed with God and his excellence.

Practice like there’s no tomorrow

So, I’ve seen some ads on the internet where supposedly a new method on how to teach the guitar has been created.

Or something new has been invented to help guitarists become great at guitar.

Or I don’t know what have you.

And I’ve even seen some ads saying that you don’t need to practice a ton in order to get good at guitar and you can actually get good at guitar within 6 months.

So I just want to be clear that it is a fantasy for any guitarist to being able to call yourself a professional at guitar within 6 months.

It’s known in the music industry that when top notch musicians first started playing the guitar, they were practicing for 8 or 9 hours a day.

And I must add, that we are not better than the greats.

No one is better than the greats.

Slash, who was awarded 7 times guitarist of the year by guitar world magazine said that when he was 15 or 16, he was practicing the guitar for 12 hours a day.

So like, there are some apps out there that claim that you don’t need to practice that long and hard in order to actually become great at guitar, but I agree with slash, you do need to include a lot of hours on practicing and perfecting your craft.

And it goes the same with voice and any other instrument that there is.

If you want to become a great producer, then you have to practice producing a whole bunch of songs.

If you want to be a great songwriter, then you have to practice writing a whole bunch of songs.

And it just makes sense doesn’t it?

Anyways, hope this was an encouragement to you all.
