**Quick note** I think I’ve made a few basics in music production blog posts already but I thought that I would make this one because I think that it’s important to understand this aspect as well. back to the show

Hey everyone! So today, I’m going to share with you all the basics in music production that you absolutely need in order to create great tracks for your fans.

Let’s get started

So first let’s talk about the scope of music production

So let’s talk about music production.

Asking someone the basics in music production is like asking someone the basics in being a doctor.

I mean the core basics of being a doctor stem all the way to elementary school where you learn to read and write and do math.

Likewise with being a music producer, when you are a music producer, you use almost every skill that you’ve ever used in music to create great music.

This includes all of the foundational elements in music such as Beat, Rhythm, Melody, Harmony, etc. etc.

Every element that you’ve ever learned in music is going to be used in music production.

So I can say the basics in music production, but in reality, they are basics in all of music.

So I’m going to break down this post into 2 Sections, the musician aspect of music production, and the technical aspect of music production.

Let’s get into it.

The musician beginners guide

When starting out in music there are some key elements that you need to understand in order to really become a great musician.

  1. Beat
  2. Rhythm
  3. Harmony
  4. Melody
  5. Tempo
  6. Chords
  7. Groove

There are literally a whole bunch of more aspects that fall into these categories, but to be honest with you, it all falls under the oh so important practice.

If you practice your instrument, then you will develop your own sense of rhythm, you will develop your own melodies, you will find your own tempos that you like to work in, you will find your own groove.

If you practice and practice and practice for several years, you will learn something in music.

You will learn how to make songs that hit.

There are so much more technical aspects of music, but it would literally be impossible to name them all here.

So go out there and just learn from videos and books about the guitar and you will do great.

The technical aspect of music production

You should learn how to use the following

  1. DAW
  2. Microphone
  3. Mix

If you can do these things, you will understand the essential elements of music production.

And the number one way to get good at music production is to literally reproduce your favorite songs and just take pieces and bits from each production and add it to your own, In time with doing this process, you will develop your own production style that is nothing like anyone elses.

And all of this is a learning curve, Learning how to use a DAW and learning how to use the instruments given to you, it’s all a learning curve.

You should be a musician when producing music.

There was a famous producer name Rick Rubin who produced a whole bunch of albums in the 80s and 90s and he was famous for not being able to play an instrument.

Actually it was said that he had no musical experience.

He is the exception not the rule, in reality, the majority, I’m talking about 90 to 95% of all music producers need to be able to play an instrument in order to make great music.

So pick up the piano or guitar as well and learn music.

You should also learn how to sing, because singing gets you the most money.
