Hey everyone! So today, I’m going to share with you all how to be a great Christian and a musician at the same time.

Let’s get into it.

Why am I even doing this post?

So what happens is that I was thinking to myself this very question.

How am I supposed to be a great musician without using worldly influences.

And this whole question stems from the fact that as Christians, we really shouldn’t be listening to worldly music.

And the reason for that is because worldly music often has themes and suggestions that aren’t holy.

But the thing is as a musician, it’s very important that you listen to all types of music.

You need to listen to all types of music in order to really become a great musician.

And there are a few reasons as to why you need to do that.

For one, when you are producing music, you need to be able to draw influences from other producers so that you can mix and match until you create something original.

Like there is even a common practice amongst producers where you have to listen to different genres of music and imitate those productions and eventually come out with your own productions.

Which is all fine and dandy for the musician, but terrible for us Christians.

The reason why it’s terrible is because most music that’s out on the radio is not Christian friendly.

It usually talks about adult and explicit activities.

And even though it might not curse per se, it still might not be talking about the Christian things that you always wanted to say.

I remember I one time heard a song, and I honestly thought it was innocent and fine and dandy for the Christian, but it turns out it was talking about sex.

And when I found that out, I quit listening to that song.

My mom actually told me that it was talking about sex because I was singing the song a lot as a teenager.

I quit singing it though.

But there are other reasons as to why you need to listen to a wide variety of music as a musician.

For one, every Genre borrows and steals from other genres.

Like I have heard country songs that use Hip-Hop elements and vice versa, I have heard Hip-hop songs that use rock and country elements and if you were to listen to those songs, you would never guess that it was a country or rock element that they introduced.

Also, When you’re mixing, your ears need to be adjusted to the speakers that you’re going to be mixing on, and they need to be adjusted for the sounds that you’re going to be using.

The way that you use the EQ or the Compression needs to be fine tuned and you do that by listening to a wide variety of music.

Which is why I am writing this blog post.

I’m here instructing how to be Godly and a musician at the same time.

Let’s get into it

Listening to Christian music only?? Or not??

If I’m really honest with you, most Christian music is all that you need in order to make great Christian music.

Like, RIght now, I have a playlist that I listen to on the headphones that I mix in.

Also, I am trying to replicate some of my favorite productions in order to create the Christian music that I want to create.

I will say that there are some styles of Hip-Hop that I wish my Christian music would replicate, but regardless it’s just a little drop in the river.

Most of the songs that I want to produce are like rock songs and acoustic songs and I have plenty of those in my Christian playlist.

There is one song that I want to replicate so badly and I’m currently doing it but it’s difficult i will admit.

And it’s really a simple song to make, it’s the vocals that’s getting me.

It’s, “I could sing of your love forever” the Sonicflood version.

But I remember my pastor who once said, “Now it’s not said in the Bible if music is supposed to be used explicitly to worship God. However, it does say to use music to honor him and worship him.”

You could take that as far as you want.

and personally I think that it’s true that you need to use it to worship God.

I sometimes slip and I end up listening to worldly music, but I’m trying to stop.

If I’m honest with you, I’m always aiming to use nothing but Christian music.

And it’s strange you know why?

Because I feel like I listen to my worldly playlist a lot more often than my Christian playlist.

But just now, my Christian playlist starred like 6 songs in the playlist.

And that means on Apple Music that you’ve listened to those songs completely for more than 100 times each.

And I know that God is here, for he reigns!
