Hey everyone! So today, I’m going to share with you all some of the techniques that you could do on the guitar.

Let’s get into it.

Too many to count

So what happens is that there are actually a whole bunch of techniques that you could do on the guitar and each one has their own problems that you need to overcome to learn how to do those techniques.

But today, I’m not going to go over all the different techniques that you could do on the guitar, because it would literally be impossible to go over every single technique.

But I’m going to go over some of the most common techniques that are used in pop music.

Let’s get into it.

Chords

Probably the most used technique in guitar and music in general is the ability to harmonize with the melody.

The melody carries the song but the chords give it a sort of structure.

It lays the foundation for which the rest of the song will be based off of.

And it’s very important to note that guitar is a rhythm instrument, which means that you’re going to be playing a lot of chords.

So as a guitarist, it’s actually important that you have a really wide Chord vocabulary.

This way you can create great flavors with the music that you make.

Solo

Solos, are unique in that they can offer a sort of break from the song.

Whether that’s a break from the beginning of the song or in the middle, or even to have a big end, it’s important to note that guitar solos are very powerful and can be used to really elevate a song from amateur song to great song.

It’s not necessary in every song, but on a great song, it will sound amazing.

Arpeggios

Arpeggios are basically broken down chords.

So a Chord is any three notes played at the same time, and basically if you take those exact same notes in a chord and play them individually, then you have what’s called an arpeggio.

Usually you should hold down the notes until the chord changes, but if you play the chord as an arpeggio, it’s really great sounding.

It adds a dynamic that is different.

Vibrattos

A Vibrato is when you kind of “Shake” the note by bending the string up and down really fast.

But vibratos can be different depending on what you’re doing.

There are different vibratos for different purposes.

Some people say that you should Vibrato by going side to side. Other’s say that you should Vibrato be going up and down.

There are also the strengths of the vibrattos where you can have a light vibrato or a strong vibrato.

Harmonics/Pinch Harmonics

Harmonics and Pinch Harmonics are when you hear the guitar kind of squeal.

The only way that I could describe this is when in Crazy train you hear the guitar kind of squeal, those are harmonics.

Harmonics can be difficult to pull off for the beginner, but with practice anything can get done.

Mute/Palm Mute

Muting the strings can add a percussive effect, it helps sometimes to transition between parts of a song

Palm mute is just another way to play chords and notes, it’s just another option that you could use to create a song.

Conclusion

And to be honest with you there are so many other techniques in music that it’s important to do your own homework on different techniques that you could use and learn those techniques so that you could go out there and use them in your own songs.

Anyways, that’s it for now.
