Hey everyone! So I drew inspiration today by really thinking about this topic for a while.
And just today, I knew how to word it.
This is me explaining the concert that solidified all of my music talents for God.
Let’s get into it.
Junior Year of high school Rock Fest
So what happened is that I had been a musician for a while.
I had been a musician for the previous 5 years.
And my I was at the top of my game.
I remember that every song that everyone ever wanted me to play, I would play it without hesitation.
I was 16 turning 17 and there was nothing stopping me in the world of music.
And what happened is that I was going through some difficult times at the time, but to be honest with you, I just wanted to play the guitar.
And what happened was that I remember that the guitar would fill up my heart until it was too easy and it was time to learn the next song.
And singing wasn’t giving me the same feeling that it once gave me.
And everything musical under the sun just wasn’t amounting to much as to what I really wanted.
And I remember that the more that I played the guitar, the deeper of a hole that I was burying myself in.
I was burying myself in a hole that just wanted something bigger than me.
I wanted to be a part of something that was bigger than me.
And I remember that I had been in bands and orchestras and all sorts of musical acts but it just wasn’t enough for me to be convinced that it was what I needed.
I needed something.
And then while I was going through that hard time, I just remember I went to church like how I always did on Sundays and when I went to church, my pastor just said, “We need God. because God is the answer to the problems that are most important to us.”
Of course he said more than that, But that’s what I carried from that message on that Sunday.
And then, I remember that I had a big concert to perform at and I was the headliner playing the lead guitar parts on the electric.
I remember that concert so clearly.
The song that I had to perform was Snow by the Red Hot Chili Peppers.
For those of you that don’t know, thats a really fast song on the guitar.
That beginning part in that song is a guitarist playing really fast.
And I was the one who had to do it.
And I remember when I got up on stage, that everyone just whispered and started saying, “It’s the guitar man it’s the guitarist!.”
And then after the show, everyone just stood up and applauded at me like I had done something extraordinary and in reality it was.
And on top of all that, I had just won the most outstanding music student award from the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C.
I was the craze at my school, you should’ve seen it.
But even still after that concert, I remember my pastor’s words and he said, “It’s God that we need.”
And I remember the feeling that I felt the second after I stopped playing the song, it felt empty, it felt drained, it felt wrong, it felt like something was missing.
And that’s when I remembered that I needed God.
I remembered that it was God who I was chasing.
Even after all of the grand musical things that I had accomplished in my high school career, I still felt as if though I needed something bigger, and it was so, I needed God.
I’m not the first musician or big person who has felt this way either.
There have been rich famous people in the world who just felt empty even with all their successes and triumphs, they still feel empty and in vain even after they did the biggest things they believed they could do.
And the difference between me and them is that I knew better, I knew that I needed God.
And it’s true, we humans were meant to chase after something bigger and that bigger thing is God, Jesus, the great I am.
