Hey everyone! So today, I’m going to share with you all a lesson that this salesman once taught me and I still stick with it today.
Let’s get into it.
Or else you’ll go hungry

So what happens is that I remember when I was in Junior year of high school, my math teacher was teaching me Pre Calculus.
And I remember she went up to me one day and said, “German, what’s your problem, you’re smart enough to understand the topics we’re talking about but you’re not applying yourself to the material.”
And in reality, I just wasn’t doing the homework’s and because I wasn’t doing the homework’s I wasn’t getting the practice that I needed to do good on the tests but the in class work that I was doing I would understand all of it and get good grades on it.
And so what happened is that, that year, my life was spiraling downhill.
I was going through a lot.
And what happened was that I remember my math teacher pulled me aside and said, “German what’s going on what’s wrong?”
And I said to her, “Life is just hard.”
and she said, “I understand it’s hard but you can’t let difficult situations affect your work because or else you’ll go hungry.”
And so what happens is that I took that everywhere I went in college and in work. But it got really serious when I went into my first sales job.
My first sales job

I was a door to door salesman.
I remember those days so clearly.
And I remember that I went into that job not really expecting much but to get a better pay than what I was getting working in a restaurant.
And what happened was that I was in the field and I wasn’t doing too well.
So what happened is that my manager pulled me aside and said, “German what’s going on man?”
and in reality, when you’re a door to door salesman, you get yelled at a lot.
You get yelled at by almost every homeowner except on those rare few occasions.
and what happened was that it was shaking me up.
Like by the end of the night, I was all shook and struggling to even stop shaking from all of the abuse that i was getting at the door.
And what happened was that I told my manager straight up, I was like, “Man I’ll be honest with you, it’s hard doing this job. Like the customers are yelling at me and it’s hard for me to keep pushing forward when I just had the biggest yelling at the door from the previous customer.”
And what happened was that he said, “I know it’s hard German but what you got to do is you got to compartmentalize.”
and I said to him, “What’s that?”
and he said, “It’s when you take negative emotions and you put them in a place, and then you just shove it to the side and focus on what you need to do.”
And he said, “Imagine German, that guy is going to go to sleep comfortable in his bed tonight and without a hesitation thinking about you. But you, you are going to go hungry because you didn’t get commission from today, therefore your day is messed up.”
And he said, “If you just compartmentalize, you would find the strength needed to do good in your career and make great money. Because imagine if you made some commission today, you could’ve. Left a happy camper! Right?!?! Well now don’t focus on today anymore, go home, practice in the mirror and come back strong tomorrow but remember you got to perform strong.”
And i”lol be honest with you, it made so much sense at the time that I needed to make it strong in the field that I was working in.
Just so you know, out of 150 salesman in the entire company for the year, I was the 13th best salesman for the entire year, beating some assistant managers.
And I carry that today in music.
Today in music, when it’s time to focus on the career, I focus and I perform my absolute best.
And the rest can just wait up.
But this is something that you could apply to your life as well.
Even if you do music right now, you might have a day job that you need to perform exceptionally well at.
And it’s okay, so what you need to do is when it’s time to focus on work, you need to work.
And practice that things that you need to practice at work and you will never go wrong.
This is wisdom for work.
