Hey everyone! So today, I’m going to share with you all the absolute bare necessities in a song.

Let’s get into it.

Melody

So, some people say that the most important aspect of a song is the melody.

And I understand where they are coming from.

Even sometimes when you’re singing a song and the accapella part comes in, you can even hear the chord changes in the voice therefore making the chords and the bass line and the drums part unnecessary.

And as a matter of fact, you could even make a song without the guitars and piano playing the chords. You could make a song with just the drums and percussion instruments playing in the background.

No chords.

And likewise the other way around, you could make a song with just the chords and no drums or bass.

So it would be just the chords and the voice.

But the voice has to stay the same.

You have to include a melody because or else it’s just a bunch of background music. That’s supporting nothing.

So a melody or a main line where you are saying lyrics are absolutely important to a song.

As a matter of fact you could sing a song with just the melody and that would sound really good.

So yeah I personally think that the melody is the most important aspect of the song because it’s the creative outlet for the musician.

Chords or supporting instrument

This is almost always a guitar or piano or ukulele.

there are other instruments as well but for the sake of this blog post this is where we come out at.

If you can program a DAW to have a good rhythm for your supporting instruments, then you could use a DAW as well.

What happens is that there is a saying in the music industry that says, “If you can make a song sound great with just the chords and voice, then you can make the song sound amazing with everything else.”

So the chords are important because they help to give direction as to where you want the song to go.

There are many ways to take the melody, but if you add chords to a song it helps to take shape in a song.

And that’s it.

That’s really all you need in order to make the song sound great.

Just a little elbow grease in the instrument that you know how to play and also a voice line and you will go far.

Make the best out of your situation and you will go far.

The reason why I don’t include drums and a bass line and synthesizers is because…

Is because that falls into production and recording.

that’s not actually the making of the song itself.

When you have a song that’s gold, the rest will take care of itself in a relatively fast fashion.

Don’t get me wrong, it might still need to take a while to record and produce everything but the songwriting part is the most difficult.
