Hey everyone! So today, I’m going to share with you all how to not be a broke and starving artist.

Let’s get into it.

Back in the day, it might have been a little harder

So I don’t know about the 1700s or the dark ages of art and music.

But I know how in the 1960s and 70s promoted their music.

Back in the 60s and 70s, people actually printed flyers promoting their shows and they would post them all around town.

And anyone who would be cool would come out and watch your show.

But now, thanks to all of the laws that surround promoting in public, you can’t go door to door posting your flyers around town so that you can invite people to your shows.

What happened is that I guess sometime in the 90s, lawmakers said that they could make money off of a license that you needed for soliciting so then they made what’s called the solicitors license.

And sometimes those things are hard to get.

Like personally me, in the town that I am in you need a 5,000 dollar bond, pay a 35 dollar fee, and fill out a bunch of forms about the company that you work for and what is your purpose in my county.

But that’s not where I was going.

Back in the day you would actually start by promoting locally and if you build a big enough audience in your local venues then you move up to even bigger venues in the big cities near you and afterwards a promoter or record label could sign you on.

But today, we don’t have that.

And it’s good and bad.

IT’s good because with technology we have actually advanced from promoting on the street.

Now, we can promote all digitally and actually digital promotion is provien to be like 70% more effective than print promotion, even though print promotion still has it’s place in the music market.

And it’s good because now the only thing that we need to promote is our laptop and a can do spirit.

I’m not going to lie, the more that you put into your promotion on the internet, the more you’re going to get out of it.

This is where not starving comes into place

Not starving in 2025

So basically this means that we could make some serious money with our music if we just work hard at it.

Now what does that mean?

It means waking up early and putting in your hours to your craft. It means being constantly working on your music and having a strong work ethic in your music.

And if I’m honest with you, the principle from the 1960s and 70s hasn’t changed, you still need to put in hard work and that principle will be here forever because that’s the Lord’s way of doing things.

So put in your hours and you will come out with something good.
