Hey everyone! So today, I’m going to share with you all how I take my songs from just a concept all the way to finished productions.

Let’s get into it.

I create the songs

Now there are some people out there that say that if you can play the guitar and sing it at the same time and make it sound good, then you have a really good song.

I believe that wholeheartedly.

There are also some people who say that you need to produce it completely first before knowing exactly how it sounds.

I just don’t believe that.

The reason is because if a melody and a group of chords can sustain each other and make a big impact in a song, then the rest of the layers are just going to supplement the chords and make it sound really good.

So the first thing I do is I create a group of chords.

And that’s just one method to songwriting, there is another method that I use where I start with the melody but for the most part I usually start with the chords.

And I pick a chord progression first.

I usually start off with the I V vi IV chord progression first and if I feel like it needs to be happier I will turn it into something happier and if it needs to be sadder then I will make it into something sadder.

That’s just one method on how to write a song, but some people really prefer to start with the melody first.

Some people say that the most important aspect in a song is the melody.

So they start with the melody first.

And to be honest with you, I have started songs with the melody first, and I will say that those are probably the songs that impact the most.

And I will say that it makes for a far more creative melody.

The problem with starting the melody is that you sometimes don’t know where the song is going, whereas if you start with the chords, you know the general direction of the song from the start.

But that’s the reason why I start with the chords.

And then afterwards I put lyrics and voice to it.

Of course keeping it simple.

Almost all of my songs have started with coming in low in the first verse and ending high in the chorus.

But I have started one song just recently and actually it’s the song that I’m releasing that started strong and actually started with the chorus in a way.

The song Peace in your heart actually starts really loud and bright.

But it does fall back to the low parts in the verses.

After I write the song I go into recording and production

Sometimes I mix a little bit while I’m producing because I just hate how the voices and the guitars don’t sit well with each other without reverb.

Before I started mixing I couldn’t tell really, but now that I’ve been mixing for sometime, I just can’t stand it and I hear it all the time.

But I record and produce at the same time.

The first step I do in recording is finding out the Tempo of the song.

Because if I’m quite frank with you, I never start a song by putting on a metronome.

Almost always, it’s just me and the guitar.

And I figure out the tempo when I go into production.

And you would be surprised at how wide of a variety you develop in tempo when you’ve been playing for years.

After I record the guitars and vocals, I will produce the rest off the song.

The real practice that comes with production is not when you’re making a song though, it’s actually when you’re out practicing producing on your own.

Just recreating tracks and mixing them is really what you need to elevate your production skills to the next level.

Then it’s time for mixing and mastering but at the same time I look for artwork

So mixing is fun but it is quite time consuming.

And on top of that, I don’t really have the proper mixing monitors to mix a song right now, so I am having to take the songs back and forth from my headphones to my car speakers to my T.V. speakers and so on and so forth.

But I don’t really mind, it’s all a part off the process.

For mastering I’m trying to do it on my own, but it’s really quite difficult.

And at the same time, I am looking for artwork.

Now lately, my sister has been taking some of my photos and I must say that they look phenomenal.

Shoutout to my sister for she really is doing a good job with the photos.

And I edit the photos to make them look brighter or more intense.

Then release day

So this process actually took me sometime to actually make.

It wasn’t easy, but it is doable.
