Hey everyone! So today, I’m going to share with you all some music wisdom.

Let’s get into it.

Start acoustic

So electric guitars and drums, and bass lines are all groovy and what not, but sometimes as a songwriter, you might not have access to those things right from the start of the songwriting process.

And as a matter of fact, a drum groove, bass line, and other rhythm elements can be included into a song later, it doesn’t have to start from the beginning.

However, the basis and the core elements of the song such as the melody and the chords, should start out as acoustic because that way, you hear the chords and how they sound against the melody.

You can start with an electric guitar and I guess you would find ways to make it really interesting, however, If you take a song that’s already on electric guitar, it might only resonate with a select group of people.

Therefore if you’re trying to highlight your songwriting abilities, an electric guitar might not be what you want because people might think that you’re going for something else and it might be difficult to convince someone that your rock sounding song was supposed to be a pop hit.

Acoustic songs really move people

There is another theory in music theory that says, “the songs that impact people the most are the ballads, the slow songs, the songs that really cause people to sing.”

So if you’re really trying to make it as a songwriter, you could create acoustic songs and put them out on the internet to try and attract potential A&Rs.

What some record labels want is someone to write hit songs for them and if you can do just that, then you could do something big.

Acoustic songs sound great on their own

If you’re really running short on time and are trying to get music out there, if you can get your acoustic songs to sound really good, then you could just make the song record two or three tracks and call it a day.

An acoustic song could be released all on it’s own and if you put in the right elements into the song, then you have a hit song right there!

In conclusion

A song should start out as acoustic because that’s the way that hits are made.

It’s not the only way, but if you follow this general rule of thumb, you will go a long way.
