Hey everyone! So today, I’m going to share with you all the absolute bare necessities for the modern musician.

Let’s get into it.

Computer

In an ideal world, you would actually have 2 computers.

One for the business side of music such as music promotion, marketing, file storage, artwork, videos etc. etc.

and the other one SOLELY for music.

What happens is that that’s the ideal method for going about this music gig.

However, we are not idealists.

We are realists that play with real things.

Therefore, the bare minimum that you would need is an IPad or a Smartphone.

If you can afford it, having a regular computer helps because you need something to record your music, edit your music, make content, promote your content, and just basically work off of your computer.

However, currently me, I am making music out of my IPhone and IPad.

And I do it with cheap recording software such as FL Studio Mobile.

It’s not cheap it’s just inexpensive.

But it’s GREAT.

It’s Phenomenal.

So use your resources wisely and be resourceful.

Don’t get so bogged down with not having the best of the best with you.

Because in reality almost no one is going to have the best equipment with them ever.

So have some form of computing device and software and that’s basically all you need.

Music talent and the ability to sing

At the end of the day, you are a musician.

You might do a lot of social media management for your own accounts, but you are a musician.

And being a musician means that you write and publish music.

Which means that you are an excellent musician first before you are an excellent social media manager.

So if you ever get to the point where you can produce great songs without the help of anybody else, then you know that you’re on the right path.

A means of promotion

You need to find a way to promote your music either through YouTube, Instagram, A blog, Facebook, you name it, you need to find a way to get your music out there.

Remember that it takes time to build a following.

and if you’re trying to get signed to a record label, then you should start locally first.

So in your tags and hashtags include phrases that include your area that  is near you.

So say for example you perform in Atlanta, then put in your tags, “Up and coming Atlanta musician.” Or, “Georgia rapper.” Or maybe even, “Southern singer.”

You can advertise, but that can be very expensive. Try and promote on your own for free and see how far you can get without money first and then you’ll see what you got in the end.

Most of these things, most people have

Don’t worry about not having the best situation or software or even being the biggest artist right now.

Because in time, you’ll gain all of the things that you need.
