Hey everyone! Hope you got your popcorn and your drinks ready because this is a long one.
Alright let’s jump right into it.
Starting from zero

Okay, so in this section I talk about what you should be doing to get signed to a Christian record label if you have no music talent whatsoever.
You should first become a musician if you are trying to get into a record label.
Now, I have heard of one music producer who actually became really big by not knowing much about music, but every other music producer besides that, had to have a big background in music in order to actually make it big.
So, if you have no musical talent, now it’s the time to actually start practicing the guitar, the piano, your singing abilities, anything and everything musical is what you should be doing in order to actually get signed to a record label.
So, don’t be afraid to fail, start from zero and just start practicing your instrument.
It takes time to become a great musician, so don’t worry about that kid on YouTube who is playing ridiculous things at such a young age.
Now if you are a musician and you want to get signed to a record label

If you are a musician and you really really want to get signed to a record label, which I wouldn’t do, you could try and start writing songs and picking up books about songwriting so that you can go in as a songwriter.
Or if you’re trying to make it as a DJ then pick up books and watch videos about how to become a DJ.
Whatever it is that you want to do in music is what you’ll have to practice.
Now it actually takes time in order to become a great musician, but what no one ever told you is that learning the creative elements of being a musician also takes time.
So if you’re out there and you want to become a songwriter or producer and you’re already a great musician, well good news is that you are already a great musicians and you can pick up things quicker than other musicians.
The bad news is that you have to take time to learn how to be creative in your respective fields.
So if you’re trying to become a songwriter, you actually have to learn how to write songs, it’s not just a matter of divine inspiration, even though sometimes that happens. It’s more so a matter of hard work and drive that gets you to the next part of your career which is the record label.
So whether you want to be a mixing engineer, a songwriter, a producer, a singer-songwriter, it doesn’t matter you’re going to have to learn how to be creative in your respective fields.
After you’ve learned, you need to start putting out your work

So producers have their own set of work that they need to put out, songwriters as well, but the thing is that you need to start producing content in the form of songs, blog posts, YouTube videos, etc. etc. in order to actually start making a background in music.
Personally me, I don’t know exactly how it is for mixing engineers because some mixing places want engineers who have certificates and degrees, but I know this, that my local community college actually has a music production certificate that you could earn, so maybe check in on that?
But either way, you’re going to be putting out songs.
Songs that need to sound good.
So in essence, you need to learn a little bit about everything in order to make an impact in your music career.
If you learn how to songwrite, you could try and learn how to produce so that way you can fully produce your songs and put them on Itunes and Spotify.
and vice versa.
If you are a songwrtier-producer, try learning how to mix so that you can mix your own songs.
it’s all a learning process.
Now it’s time to build up your audience

This is where the real work comes in.
But it’s actually an enjoyable process if you really put your mind to it.
Let me give you some pointers on how to build your audience.
- The more content you put out, the more of an audience you’re going to see. I know it’s not fun learning a whole new skill set which is online marketing, but it’s something that needs to be done. And actually you learn to have fun with online content creation. It’s basically what you have to do, just create content. I mean there are probably some more technical aspects to what you have to do like examine your search results and adjust your content promotion efforts accordingly, but overall the same concepts apply, the more content you create, the more of an audience you’re going to get.
- It takes 100,000 tweets to see a big difference in your X game There is a common statistic and it say that if you post up 100,000 tweets, then you’re going to create a great following of engaged followers. And it’s not easy, but that’s the truth of content creation.
- It took me 1,000 blog posts. So I have been writing for a while, and I personally have written more than 1,000 blog posts on here. And I will say that it takes time and energy to write all of these blog posts. However your audience will come and do not be worried about the rest if your audience hasn’t shown up in the time that you wanted it to show up
- Work like you’ve never worked before. So I actually have been blessed with the opportunity to see how some trades work. And some trades work really really hard. Some professions work really really hard. I one time heard that truck drivers work around 80 hours a week. And right now, you might have a part-time job, you might be going to college, but really think to yourself, how hard do you want this to succeed? If you answer really badly, you’ll find out that good money takes a lot of work to do. I personally know a lady who owns a business and she works 12 hours a day with her business. That’s a lot of hours to work at a job. And yes the rewards are there, but only if you are willing to put everything into it.
Make an EPK

So an EPK is a digital resume of what you’ve done in music.
Record labels and lawyers actually see this to decide if they want to sign you or not.
And honestly, you could have a lot of things on there, but the key things that you should have are this
- Albums, singles, stream, sold
- merch sold
- tickets sold
- venues you’ve played at
- pictures of your concerts
- pictures of you
- a bio
- contact info
- demo
But honestly, if you could create an EPK with your albums, singles, streams sold to be very high, then you probably have won a big part of the game already.
Record labels want to see if you’re marketable.
So if you show them that people are actually buying your music, then they know you sell.
Pitch to lawyers

So lawyers want to be able to sell who you are to record labels.
And they get commission off of your success.
So you need to include a demo to your lawyer so that he can see what kind of music he’s working with.
You should make your demo the best and freshest that you have. The reason for this is because if someone from the music industry sees that you have an old demo, then they’re going to say that this dude doesn’t make new music or can’t replicate the great music that he did right here so it would be pointless in order to take him on.
So include your freshest music to your lawyers and that will help out.
All in all, those are my tips on how to get signed to a Christian record label.
