Hey everyone! So today, I’m going to share with you all the things that you absolutely need in order to get signed to a record label.
Let’s get into it.
Photos
Let’s start with the easy things.
It’s good to have really good photos of you because people are going to want to see what they are dealing with.
If you look really good, then people are going to want to sign you onto their record labels.
But it’s not just pictures of you that you need to take, you should take pictures of your concerts and all press related things that you go through.
A bio
A bio should reflect what you currently believe in.
Tell people in a short paragraph what you’re all about.
Let’s get to the bread and butter of what you really need
Albums sold
So believe it or not, most artists use major record labels as their last part of their career.
It’s not the beginning of their career, but the finish line of a long journey.
So what you really need to show is that you can sell albums and singles and get streams.
The rule of thumb is that if you can sell to a small area, then you can sell to a large area.
So try and sell out to your local crowd first and then try and sell out to larger areas.
It’s much more impressive to a record label to see 5,000 albums sold locally than 5.000 albums sold nationally.
So if you could find a way to prove that you have sold out to a whole bunch of people, then you have a great start and a great heads up.
Make a living off of your music first and then try and get signed
So you might think that you need a record label to make great money off of your music when you first start out, but in reality, record labels want to see if you are already making great money off of your music, it means you’re marketable.
So if you show that your merch is selling and your CDs are selling, then that just means that the record label should really sign you on as an artist.
Venues sold out
If you can sell out a venue and sell out tickets to your shows, that’s another good indication that a record label should sign you on.
The reason for that is because as an artist, your biggest source of revenue is going to be your shows.
So if you sellout a few shows that are good in size, then you are in the game.
