Hey everyone! So today, I’m going to share with you all some advice on how to practice rhythm when you are doing music.
Let’s get into it.
Tip 1 anything and everything helps with rhythm
So when you first start out being a musician, you’ll notice that you really cannot and don’t have any sense of rhythm.
And what you’ll find is that everything might be a challenge to do when talking about rhythm or basically anything musical.
Some things might come easier than usual, but you’ll find that a lot of things are not easy and you need to work on a lot of different aspects.
So when you first start out in music, anything and everything will help with rhythm.
Even those simple chord progressions that don’t look or feel like much of a Chord progression will help to develop great rhythm in the future.
Tip 2 Try different instruments
So what happens is that this happens a lot to musicians. If you pick up the guitar and then you start singing, you’ll find that when you sing and when you play guitar, you have different senses of rhythm being played.
You might find that your guitar might tend to lean on a specific rhythm while your voice tends to lean on another rhythm.
Which is good because this expands your rhythm vocabulary.
And practicing different instruments will make you a more well rounded musician.
Tip 3 practice keeping beat
So what happens is that when you keep beat, it’s actually a method in which you reference yourself in the song.
It’s a point of reference in the song that guides us to have rhythm.
The beat is the steady pace in the song, but the rhythm is what makes the song bounce. It’s what makes the song feel.
You need to learn how to use both in order to be an effective musician.
Practice drumming out different parts
Even if you’re not a drummer, try and practice drumming or clapping different parts of the song in order to get a better grasp at the rhythm.
My guitar teacher once said, “If you can clap it out, you can play it.”
Conclusion
And those are my top tips on how to start developing rhythm.
Remember that rhythm is a lifelong venture. You’re going to pick up different rhythms all your life and you must always be learning.
