Hey everyone! So today I’m going to share with you all a music tip that I think needs to go around more often in the music world.
Let’s get into it.
Practice listening
So what happens is that when you’re a musician, you really use your listening skills a lot.
Not only to listen to instruction given to you to perform and produce music, but also the technical aspects of music require that you do a lot of music listening both passive and active listening.
Active listening
So what you could do to get better at producing music is to literally spend some time each day listening to music.
And you have to pay attention to how everything is working.
Like what are the layers that are happening at different instances and also how are they panning the guitars and what not, all of these things are especially important to take note because when you are mixing your own music, you will be able to mix and produce just like your favorite artists.
Like currently right now, I’m listening to a soft pop ballad. And I notice how simple the bass and guitars are and how the rhythm element compliments the voice so well.
And also I notice that this track is mainly strings, guitar, violins and drums and of course voice.
Sometimes songs can really be that simple, it doesn’t have to be much, and I can use that for my own music production.
Passive listening
Of course music isn’t all business, you’re not always going to listen to music to learn a lesson from it.
But when you’re listening to passive music, you actually learn while you just carry on your day.
You learn and believe it or not, subconsciously it does help.
Because what happens is that while you listen to music passively, your subconscious actually kicks in and helps to help you learn.
It’s actually quite cool to be honest with you.
All in all, you need to be listening to music to get better
The best way to produce like a pro, is to first mimic the pros and then venture off into your own thing.
I’m not saying to blatantly copy the producer and put it on an album.
you might blatantly copy a producer but not put it on an album and that’s okay. Like do not publish the song you made.
Just use it as practice.
But when you produce for your own songs, you need to be original.
Listen to the best producers that you can find, and you will go far.
