Hey everyone! So today, I’m going to share with you all a bible study that I honestly had a hard time listening when I first started really taking God seriously.

Let’s get into it.

Jeremiah 17:9 states, “The heart is deceitful above all things and desperately wicked: who can know it?”

So what happens is that Jeremiah was preaching to the people of Israel and he says this.

I guess the reason why he said it was because Israel would follow the desires of their heart and not the desires of God.

And we can’t follow the desires of our heart because it sins against God.

And honestly, the way that I took this verse is to not do what you want to do, but rather, do what you need to do.

Because in this context, what they wanted to do was to sin against God and worship other idols and commit sins with their bodies. But what they needed to do was to listen to the Lord and follow all of his ways.

I mean, all of my life, I had thought, that I was supposed to follow my heart.

I really thought that.

But the bible actually says something quite differently.

And now that I’m older, I see now what exactly that entails.

I do things no matter the emotion not because I want to, but because I need to.

I write in this blog on my days off not because I really want, well I do want to now, but I write in it because I need to.

I go to work 5 days a week not because I want to, but because I need to.

I sing and I play guitar now, not because I want to, but because I need to.

Believe it or not people, after a while, playing and getting better at music becomes a chore, it doesn’t become fun anymore.

It’s constant work improving upon your musicianship.

So you do these things because you need to not because you want to.

And there’s a reason why I’m saying this now.

I am Christian, and I have been through pain listening to the desires of my heart.

And I do not want anyone else to go through the same pain that I went through by doing something that the bible and God said was wrong, long ago.

So I’m telling you younger generations, don’t do what you want, do what you need.

If you’re in school right now, you need to get good grades, you need to learn how to read and write, you need to learn how to do math, you need to absorb as much knowledge as possible and be good students inside the school, If you’re an adult, you need to be listening to the Lord almighty. You need to be finding a job, you need to not give up on the things in your life because they are important to you.

All in all, confide in the Lord and he will guide you throughout all of your storms.

Remember him in all your victories and he will guide you.
