Hey everyone! So today, I wanted to share some common benchmarks that I think you should have as a musician before you try and make big moves with your music. Whether you want to get signed to a record label or come out with a big release, Here are some suggestions that I recommend that you should have with your music and your socials.
let’s get into it
Music benchmark
So with all types of music, there are different things that you should be doing to be successful in your specific field.
Like an EDM Producer should be practicing producing beats, a singer-songwriter should be practicing singing and songwriting, a mixing engineer should practice mixing, etc. etc.
So like, you should understand that each one of those things takes a long time to actually learn how to do effectively.
Writing songs takes a long time to learn, playing guitar takes a long time to learn, mixing takes a long time to learn.
And so what you have to understand is that it’s impossible to do everything on your own.
But at this point I’m rambling and not staying on topic.
The benchmarks in music that you need to have should be focused on what you’re trying to achieve as a musician.
If you’re trying to be an artist or performer, then you need to be focusing on artist and performing things.
If you want to focus on songwriting, then you need to practice songwriting.
So here are some common benchmarks that you’re going to face and that you should have regardless of the field that you’re going to be going in.
The ability to sing at least 2 octaves

So this is a real barebones singer, and in reality you should be aiming to sing in at least 3 different octaves.
But I say 2 different octaves because most pop singers only sing in 2 different octaves, they hardly venture out of the 2 octaves that they have been singing in all their lives.
And there’s a reason why I say that you need to sing period.
So no matter where you go, there could always be someone who does it better, except for your voice.
Your voice is unique and can be sought after by people.
And it’s your voice that makes the most money.
I hate to say it but it’s not your guitar playing, it’s not your drum chops, it’s your voice that makes the most money.
And even if you become a producer, there are a plethora of production techniques that all revolve around singing a tune, and what are you going to outsource all of that work? That would be super expensive for you and you would cut your paycheck in half all the time.
Anyways, learn to sing and sing in 2 different octaves.
Learn music Theory, well
So music theory is one of those things that you hate but absolutely need to do.
There are many people out there who find music theory to be super confusing and what not.
Like Music theory is not necessary, but it helps tremendously.
Like on a consistent basis, you can write a great pop song off of just theory alone.
There are tests online that will test you on Music theory, you just got to look them up.
If you pass those tests, then you are a music theory expert.
Have a social media plan

I personally am trying to get at least 10,000 views per month to my blog.
And I know it’s not going to be an overnight success type of thing.
But if I work at it hard enough, then success will follow.
Right now I’m getting between 400 and 600 views per month to my blog.
I know I can do it, it just takes a little elbow grease.
Here are some social media stats that you should have before trying to do anything with your music.
Have at least 10,000 views per month to your blog
Get at least 10,000 followers to your x or twitter account
Get at least 100,000 subscribers to your YouTube channel.
These are just some of the stats that you should be aiming for.
Remember the one who is faithful with little is faithful with a lot.
Release your own music
Don’t be scared of the challenges that may lay ahead in your music career.
Releasing your own music might seem scary but it will be a well worth endeavor in your music career.
Broadcast
