Hey everyone! So today, I’m going to share with you all the reason why you need to be using reverb in almost every one of your songs.
Let’s get into it.
Reverb 101 what is reverb?
Imagine you go to an empty room.
Pretend that this is a brand new room that you just moved into and there is no furniture.
There is just walls and the floor and you.
And you call out in the room, you say something loud right?
You will hear like a tail of your voice being heard right?
That’s reverb.
It’s not an echo which can be considered delay
But it’s reverb. Reverb is that tail at the end of a loud exclamation in an auditorium and delay is an echo. If you hear in a room and you call out your name and hear back a German, this time smaller, and then another German, and that’s all the more smaller, that’s considered delay which is more so of an echo.
Now let’s talk about why it’s important to put reverb into your music even if it’s just a little bit.
Why reverb?
When you record something with a microphone, you might be in a sound proof room.
And that’s great and all to record a great song, but it doesn’t do a good job at capturing the sound for what you’re going for when playing live.
Also, there are some problems that arise when you record those vocals or guitars or whatever acoustic instrument you want to use.
For one, You might notice that even though your music is on beat, it could still sound off and you might want to fix that.
Another thing that could happen is that it could sound off tune a little bit.
These are some problems that reverb can solve.
Reverb as an effect is very beneficial because it reduces these problems by a lot.
And when used correctly, it sounds so amazing.
Some tips for Reverb
- If you’re going for an intimate feeling, use reverb but less of it. Set the room settings to small, but the wetness of the reverb to low, and usually have a small pre-delay.
- If you’re going for an auditorium feel or a club feel, then use a lot of reverb. Set the room settings to big, and depending on what you’re doing with the reverb it could be a big difference with the pre-delay, but almost on every song at least one reverb is going to be a small pre-delay.
Most of your songs are going to fall somewhere in between these two general areas so just be creative in how you use reverb.
