Hey everyone! So today, I’m going to talk a little bit about a realization that I’ve just gotten, more so of an epiphany.

Let’s get into it.

Stevie T

I have been watching Stevie T’s Videos for a while now.

And I will admit that I think that his videos aren’t Christian but they are super guitar focused.

So I will not recommend Stevie T to Christians, but I will say that he talks heavily on guitar.

And what happened is that I just saw a video where he blatantly admits that he knows nothing of music theory.

And he gave examples as to what he doesn’t know and I couldn’t help but laugh a little bit because some of the things that he was explaining was comical that he didn’t know it.

He showed simple guitar diagrams that explain different scales and he didn’t know how to read that.

Which I read in one of the first guitar books that I ever purchased.

And that’s not all, he showed simple diagrams of the piano explaining chords and scales and I thought to myself, “Come on Stevie, I’ve been watching you shred for years now and you mean to tell me that you don’t know where all of that shredding comes from?”

However, this problem is all too common with guitarists.

Actually one could argue that you don’t need much music theory to get far in guitar.

As a matter of fact it’s really true, you don’t even need to read standard notation sheet music in order to read guitar music.

It helps in certain instances but guitar music often has tabs and tabs is the easy way to read guitar music.

I was actually blessed enough to receive music education in school and was taught how to read standard notation music and tabs at the same time, I also learned music theory and simple songwriting concepts so that’s actually a blessing that I had.

But at one point is enough.

This literally means that Stevie T’s solos are just plain gibberish.

Or is it not?

Actually if you have a really good ear in music, you can actually make solos that sound good on the guitar.

So there are a couple of ways that you could make music.

Both ways are going to take a long time to actually learn how to do.

The music theory way where you learn the appropriate way to do music by the rules

Or the hearing way.

Where you play a whole bunch of songs over and over again and analyze each song to see where each one relates to the point where you can replicate it yourself.

Both methods take an extraordinarily long time to actually commit to but if you can learn music theory, learn it because it does help.

And believe it or not, it’s actually a simple way to learn music.

I know it seems difficult, but trust me it’s easier if you start practicing it.

However, that’s not the only thing.

I learned in recent years that even the biggest songwriters in the world don’t know music theory.

I learned just recently that a wide variety of big artists didn’t know music theory.

And I’m just astounded to be honest with you.

But in all reality, I understand because back in the day the songwriting system was a little different.

Back in the day in the record labels, there were teams of songwriters writing for an artist.

So in all reality, there was no need for an artist to know music theory.

The songwriters were the one’s in charge of writing the songs and the artist just performed it.

Anyways, This literally means that I’m put at the top 1% of all musicians in the world because not only do I know music theory, but I know it in depth and can apply it to songwriting and composition. But what sets me apart is my guitar playing.

Since my guitar playing is so advanced, and my music theory knowledge is so far out, this literally means that ….. I’m a boss.

lol.

No joke, it was the Lord who gave me this gift of guitar playing ability and music ability.

I would be nothing without the Lord blessing me with this.

I remember all the times that I wanted to quit.

I remember all the times that I felt like giving up because the songs got increasingly difficult.

But I mustered through it and eventually I came out on top.

and that’s the end of that.
