Hey everyone! So today, I’m going to go over how I’m studying music as of lately.
Let’s get into it.
The lyrics and the melody
So right now, I feel like I have a really good understanding as to how to make background instruments and tracks.
I feel like I could be a really great producer to be honest with you.
But there are quite a few other things that I would need to do in order to really do the things that I want to do.
And that’s to learn how to write lyrics and melodies effectively and efficiently.
Don’t get me wrong, my lyrics and melodies sound strong right now.
But to do it to the point where it causes strong inspirational emotion, is another story.
I still do that, it’s just that I need to do more of it.
So the way that I’ve been studying lyrics lately is by listening to music and and dissecting the lyrics and how they use it.
Like what words are they choosing, are they using metaphors and imagery? Are they using explanation words? What parts of the song are using these elements?
I notice a lot of poetic devices being used in lyrics even though it’s not considered poetry.
How do I study the melody?
As of lately, the melody has been my favorite part to study because I’m learning how different melodies are formed.
I have dissected a few of my favorite songs of all time and also a few pop songs.
I dissected She will be loved by Maroon 5, Lord I lift your name on high, and a few other songs.
Maybe in another post I will talk about how I dissected the melody and lyrics.
But I dissect the melody and I find out what qualities they have.
Every musician uses the same techniques that we’ve always used forever and that’s Appogiaturas, ascending and descending melodies, stagnant melodies, jagged melodies, inverse appogiaturas. Etc. etc.
So if you know what each of those is, then you’ll be able to figure out how to create your own hit songs with the great hooks and melodies that you need.
