How much money do you have? It’s an intrusive question is it not? However, if you want to record your music, it’s a very valid question to ask because recording music can be really costly. I personally have invested around 200 dollars into 4 hours of recording at one point at a professional recording studio. I’m being honest here, it was a cheap room that I asked for with inexpensive options too. I remember once I invested 600 dollars to hire a drummer, bass guitarist, and sound engineer with the recording studio. All for a rough demo. Today. I will talk about why recording at home is way better than renting out a studio due to it’s cost effectiveness, valuable skills you learn while recording at home, and the ease of recording at home.
The first reason why it’s better to record at home is because it’s so cost effective. Currently right now the best closest and most cost effective room in my area is around 60 dollars an hour which can be super costly to a lot of people. Michael (09/03/2023) How much studio time should I book? zerhour. https://zerohour.uk.com/blog/how-much-studio-time-do-i-need, states that on average for every layer of music that you add, you will add an extra 2 hours of studio time to your session. I personally can testify to this because I am averaging around 20 or 24 layers to my songs right now and I am averaging around 24 hours to 30 hours invested into each song in the recording process.
The second reason why it’s better to record music at home is because of the valuable skills that you learn while you’re recording at home. When you record at home, you actually learn very important skills that are transferable to different jobs that you would encounter all around. Lewis, C. (07/16/2025) access creative. 10 essential skills every aspiring music producer needs to master. https://www.accesscreative.ac.uk/blog/10-skills-music-producers-needs-to-master/ states, 10 different skills that you learn while you are learning music production.
The last reason why recording at Homs is better is because of the ease of going into the studio compared to recording at home. I have recorded at home and I have recorded in studios and I will say that it is infinitely more customizable and infinitely more easier to do the things that you want to do. I’m not lying to you, at one point I was making, Spanish, hip-hop, rock songs all on the same song and I could do it because I could do it with the DAW that I had. With producers, engineers, and a manager behind you, you would not have that option. I literally mixed rap and rock together which by some people is a risky move, and others say it’s an awesome option. Either way, I did it and I didn’t care. Ken, T. (09/22/2022) homebrewaudio. Easy home recording basics – the pc recording studio. https://www.homebrewaudio.com/11866/easy-home-recording-basics-the-pc-home-recording-studio/, states, how easy it is to actually setup a DAW on a PC.
In conclusion, it is much better to record at home. You learn valuable skills, it’s much more cost effective and it’s easier to do than to rent out a recording studio. What will you do with this information that i have given you? Are you going to go into a recording studio and let professionals ruin your song? Or are you going to try and do everything yourself?
