You know, I see this blog post and I can’t help but to laugh at the amount of controversy that this could spark. I think it’s a little silly judging an instrument just because it’s not old. But at the same time I understand why people think the way that they think. In this blog post, I’m going to go over the best Christian instruments to use for your music and why I think this way.

The piano

            Ahh the piano. One of the most musically versatile instruments that there is out there. 8 octaves, the ability to play chords, notes, bass lines, slurs. You can play fast, slow, it’s good for soulful music but also for pure hardcore genres.

            Well the piano is the perfect instrument for all Christian musicians. As a matter of fact, I recommend every Christian musician to learn how to play the piano.

            The ability to play the piano is a highly sought after skill. In my opinion every musician needs to learn how to play the piano. I say this from experience that sometimes knowing how to play the piano is going to help you out. Music theory wise, performance wise. It’s all going to help you out.

The guitar

            Even though I am primarily a guitarists, I say that the guitar comes second banana when it comes to music. I know, I know how can a guitarist say that a guitar has to come in second banana?

            Well it’s just that for the piano it’s pressing keys. For the guitar, you have to press strings which are completely different things. Pressing strings requires strength in your fingers.

            Actually when you first start out playing the guitar, it hurts to play it. It hurts a lot too.

            Your hands cramp up, your fingers hurt, and it seems like there is no end in sight.

            It’s a jewel learning to play the guitar, but it just requires God to be honest with you.

Your voice

            I love singing. I know I rank the piano as number one, however, I feel like the voice needs to be done by every musician.

            You can actually get away in music without learning how to play the piano or guitar, but everyone actually needs to learn how to sing.   

            Your voice is your voice and you can tell people which direction you want to go with your voice.

Why do I say these things

            As a Christian musician, we ought to be as diversified as possible. But, I understand if it’s just not possible for everyone. I even understand if your church wouldn’t support learning how to play the guitar.

            However, if you have the opportunity to learn these things, I would suggest learning these things.
