Nicknames of Jesus and some of the different meanings behind them

If you’re new to the faith, you might have heard that Jesus has a few nicknames that he goes by. Of course, The Lord of Lord’s would be called nothing but good things.

However, sometimes these names aren’t the most obvious.

Titles such as Inheritor of all things, makes us wonder, where that comes from.

Let’s talk about it.

The lion of the tribe of Judah

Why do we name Jesus the lion of the tribe of Judah?

“The Lion” is a powerful enough statement on its own. Let alone of the tribe of Judah.

            Let’s go back to the Old Testament for a second.

            In the Old Testament, the Jews had a certain tribe that was responsible for war.

            All of the men that were a part of that tribe had to enlist in the army of the Jews.

            David, the king of Israel who killed Goliath, was actually a descendant from the tribe of Judah. Jesus is the descendant of David.

            What is a lion? A Lion is the fiercest animal in the whole animal kingdom. That’s the reason why we call Jesus the Lion of the tribe of Judah, because he is the fiercest warrior of all the tribe of Judah.

And, Jesus fought a battle and won. That battle was won on the cross.

Inheritor of all things

            What does it mean to inherit?

            Inherit is a legal term. It is used in courts to identify who will receive the beneficiary of what is rightfully theirs.

            Jesus, is the inheritor of all things.

            Therefore, Jesus can do whatever he pleases with all of the things of this world. He inherited them all.

            The reason why we call him the inheritor of all things is that in the bible, a few of the prophecies that talk about Jesus say, “Whoever fulfills the law, will be the inheritor of all things.”

Jesus is the only one who has fulfilled the law and therefore, he can be the only one who inherits all things.

The king of kings

He is called the king of kings for a few reasons.

            What does a king do? He tells people what to do by his authority. He sets laws, he governs a nation.

            The bible says that, “though there are differences in operation, it is the same God who works them all in all.”

            Therefore, if God is working all in all and Jesus is the inheritor of all things, that literally means that Jesus tells what the kings of the world should do and he is the one who is ruling.

Jesus is the one who sets the rules in every country and Jesus is the one who rules the kings of the world.
