Hey everyone! Buckle up, cause you’re in for a ride today.
Before we get started, let’s have our moment of silence.
At this time, I would like all of us to take a moment of silence and pray to God to help us to become the songwriters that he wants us to become. Take a minimum of 5 minutes and pray for these things.
Now back to the show
The ultimate guide: Zero to hero….Let’s start at Zero!
So for this guide, I’m going to be taking you through, basically holding your hand all the way through to the end of your music career.
Keep in mind that I’m talking about if you have no experience in music whatsoever. So feel free to skip around and read the parts that pertain to you. But let’s start with the fact that you’re brand spanking new to music and you have no idea how to play open high E on the guitar. It’s okay we’ll start there.
Let’s start with some basics in music.
So when you first start off music, the only thing that you really should be concerned about is practicing your music.
That’s literally it.
And you can be safe to say that, practicing the instrument that you’ve chosen should be your main focus for the next 5 years.
When I say practice what do I mean?
I mean if your guitar teacher tells you to practice the song Mary had a little lamb, then actually do the song Mary had a little lamb over and over and over again until you can’t get it wrong.
Literally that’s what it takes.
Practice hard and Long because it takes a while before you can actually start making cool guitar riffs.
If your teacher tells you to practice scales, well then actually do the scales over and over and over again.
If you get stuck on a part in Mary had a little lamb, then practice that part over and over and over again.
Literally that’s all you have to do.
Now there might be some technique differences amongst instruments and that’s all fine and all that, just practice hard those techniques because that’s what’s going to help you and make you a good guitarists or pianist or whatever.
And that should be your focus for the first five years of being a musician.
If you pick up singing along the way or join a choir, that would be more beneficial to you because that will help you significantly.
Of course with music the more the merrier. The more music you create and play, the better you’re going to get at it.
After those 5 years is up, then it’s on to step two
The Journey starts
So by now, you’ve already figured out what works for you. You’ve already seen that you can play guitar and can sing and can get a standing ovation from the crowd.
Great! Now here is the start of your music career.
If you’re in high school, keep studying hard, your education will help you in the future.
If you’re in college, keep studying hard, because that will help you too.
I preach, I exclaim, I YELL at the top of my lungs from the highest of mountains for all that is good and righteous that all musicians should have a YouTube channel or a blog.
I can’t stress how important these things are because they give you a channel in which you can market your music.
New flash, you can advertise your music to masses of people. However, that same ad is going to run you about 10,000 dollars every 3 months if you want to be rich and not a starving artist.
So what happens is that a blog or a YouTube channel can act as your medium between you the artist and your fans.
If you build a large following on social media, then people will notice you and you can show them what you have to offer.
It doesn’t take a whole lot of brains to know that the more people that look at your music, the more sales and streams you’re going to get.
The more merch you’re going to sell, the more the merrier.
And your blog and YouTube channel can do that!
I personally think a blog is more beneficial to a musician than a YouTube channel, but in reality they both can be equally just as important.
So, get out there, and go through the grind and hustle hard and then you’ll end up years later at…
Success!
The success phase of your career. By now, probably more than 10 years has passed since you’ve started practicing music.
You’ve put in a lot of blood sweat and tears into making this dream a reality. You might not make the most amount of money, but you’re definitely living the dream. Making songs and playing for crowds and living off of your blog.
You are your own boss. You are the person people want to go to.
And it’s a good thing that you never quit high school because your high school diploma proved that it worked out for you by finding you jobs along the way.
And it’s also a good thing that you went to college because that degree proved to find you jobs along the way.
You might still work your day job, you might not. Depends on a whole bunch of factors outside of my control. But hey, it was all worth it, trust me it was!
