Hey everyone! Today I’m going to explain Content marketing.
Before we get into it, let’s have our moment of silence.
At this time, I would like all of us to take a moment of silence and pray to God to help us to become the person that he wants us to become. Ask God to bless our hands with work and to guide us in all the difficulties of life.
Now back to the show
What is content marketing?
Content marketing is simply the creation and publishing of content in order to gain an audience.
In this day and age, content marketing is a vital tool for the up and coming musician.
Through content marketing, we as musicians can show people our personal side as well as our professional side.
And it’s absolutely vital to show both in the world of music because you need to show people the kind of person that they are working with.
And of course the above definition of content marketing is a simplified, GreaterChristianity, definition.
But of course i’m not far off because another website, splice, has said something similar in this article.
It’s no shock that many people want to do content marketing.
It’s free, and highly effective.
So how should you do it?
How to do content marketing?
If you’re a musician and you’re trying to get into the music industry, it’s probably likely that you already do content marketing in one way or another.
Whether that’s putting up pictures on instagram or putting up posts on Facebook, Either or is content marketing, the point is to put up content on whatever platform that you decide to put up.
Now, don’t get me wrong, content marketing takes a long time to do. It’s not an overnight thing that’s going to blow up within the first few posts that you put up.
No, it takes an actual long time to see results from content marketing efforts.
I personally have been blogging for two years, not consecutively, but I have been blogging for two years and I haven’t seen massive results.
There were a few times where I saw between 100 and 200 views in a single month, but that was far and few.
Just recently I hit a day where I got 6 views in a single day. But let me tell you how I did it.
So, the first few months, I wasn’t concerned with the quality because I knew that I was going to do bad in my first batch of blog posts.
So, what I did was, I wrote blog posts with the aim of getting better.
And I know that, that’s against the grain of what other professional “GURUS” say. However, the reason why I did that was because I admitted to myself that I was not a professional writer. I had no blogging skills and I needed to learn a new skill in order to actually become the person that I wanted to become.
I’ll break it down to you
Professional bloggers recommend that you write and create content for 6 hours a day every day.
I wrote for 15-20 minutes
Professional bloggers recommend that you put up good quality pictures on your posts
I didn’t
Professional bloggers recommend that you do a whole bunch of things that honestly, could overwhelm someone which is the reason why I didn’t do those things and instead I just focused on blogging alone.
I thought that if I built myself up to become a blogger then I would actually make great blog posts and I would have a blog worth looking at.
So there you go. I blogged everyday for 7 months straight, and then of course I went to jail and things were a little rough, but I went to college within those months while working 2 jobs and it was fun to be honest with you.
So I blogged for 7 months straight and then took a four month break. I picked blogging back up in January of this year. I blogged everyday for 6 hours straight sometimes and I received quite a few views. My biggest month I got was 192 views.
I blogged for about another 4 months then took a two week break, then I blogged for another two months and took another two week break.
And now, I have blogged for another 3 months and yeah. Right now I don’t have a lot of views, However, I’m going to continue to fight through all of the pitfalls of writing in a blog.
I can practically taste victory now.
That sweet new car smell coming from the Toyota Hatchback that I want to get if this blog succeeds.
That smell of a new guitar that I want to get.
The taste of the food that I want to treat my family and friends to when my blog blows up.
Oh man, I can practically see it all happening.
Anyways that’s content marketing.
A little aside
Now I know that it’s not the most glamorous lifestyle to live at the beginning. You’re struggling to make ends meet.
Sometimes you’re hungry.
Other times you sense that people are looking down on you because you haven’t made a name for yourself.
I get it, it’s hard.
But have a little humility. Be humble and learn something that can change your life forever.
Another aside: just a little encouragement to tough it out for a few years
Now this blog thing can work out in a few years. So here’s a little encouragement for you.
Think about all of the things that you are going to do once you have the money that this blog will give you.
Not only that, but think of all the things that you can do once you receive the power that this blog can give you?
Could you buy a new car? How about pay off some student loans?
If you’re a Christian blogger, would you be sharing the word of God all whilst making a paycheck?
I personally think that there’s nothing wrong with making money while serving the Lord. We all need to pay our bills too.
And if you could make money while serving the Lord, wouldn’t you invest that money into churches? Or ministries? Or how about helping the poor?
I personally know what I would do.
I would pay off some debt. Next, I would get myself a Ford Mustang. I’ve always wanted a Mustang and if I really did have the money, I would get it.
Then I would treat all of my friends and family to dinner, separately of course.
I might buy some new clothes.
I would get some music gear. I would get two guitars. One acoustic, one electric.
The acoustic would be a Taylor grand auditorium. The electric would be a Gibson Les Paul.
I would get myself a new amp a few pedals, move out on my own, and last but certainly not least, I would do some personal things with the money in order to say thank you to God and to give back to my community.
Obviously, I wouldn’t have done this good thing if it wasn’t for God, so yeah.
