Hey everyone! So today, I’m going to share with you all 3 tips on how to become a better songwriter.

Before we get started, let’s have our moment of silence.

At this time, I would like all of us to take a moment of silence and pray to God to help us to become better songwriters. Ask God to give us patience to become the person that he wants us to become. Take a minimum of 5 minutes and pray for this.

Now back to the show

Tip 1:  Write more often

I did a little bit of research before I went ahead and wrote this blog post, and I came to the conclusion that writing more often is going to make you better at songwriting!

Haha! Isn’t that weird, how writing will help you in songWRITING, haha!

But all jokes aside, it’s an obvious one that actually states that writing is going to improve your songwriting.

In this article from https://online.berklee.edu/takenote/songwriting-inspiration-how-to-become-a-better-songwriter/

It states that writing period is going to improve and enhance your songwriting.

And it doesn’t matter if you only have a few minutes to spare each day to improve your craft in songwriting, you can do it.

Also in this article, https://www.songwriting.net/blog/11-great-tips-for-writing-better-lyrics

It also states as the first tip that writing more lyrics is going to make you a better songwriter.

So write your heart out and you will become a better writer.

Tip 2: Study other songwriters

Out of the three articles that I researched from really credible sources, all three of them agreed that studying other songwriters is the way to go when writing better lyrics.

Along with the two sources in tip number 1, https://iconcollective.edu/singer-songwriter-tips/

Also states that studying other songwriters is needed in your songwriting process.

So, it’s no wonder that we need to study songwriting as an art itself because it is.

Therefore, go out and find the songwriters that inspire you and motivate you and you will go out and find the lyrics and phrases that will shape your songwriting abilities.

Keep in mind that I’m not saying to go out and steal their lyrics, but I am saying that you will be influenced by people’s lyrics.

Tip 3 Write poems:

This tip is actually from my sister.

My sister is gifted musician. She was first chair for the Flutes in the marching band, she could play piano, ukulele, sing. She was the Marching band Captain of our high school, she was involved in so many musical things back in high school. She graduated from Liberty University with honors as a music student in Music education and she’s a music teacher right now.

She is the one who recommended me to write lyrics in order to make better songs.

And I’m not going to lie, I have recently started to write poems and they have transformed my lyric writing.

But German, what about music theory? Chord selection? Melody? Harmony? Beat, and rhythm?

If you are seriously concerned about all of those things, I don’t think that songwriting is where you should start.

If you really want to learn about music theory, I suggest first learning about music and practicing an instrument and becoming proficient in an instrument before you try and write songs.

In this blog post, I was mainly trying to talk to those people who have already done their 5 years of music classes and concerts and are now ready to move on up to the next level, which is songwriting.

There are also other websites out there that teach you all about these concepts, however, you will not understand a lot of it because a lot of it you need to spend a lot of time and dedication and practice first before moving up to the next phase.
