Hey everyone! So today, I’m going to talk about Forgiveness.

Before we get into it, let’s have our moment of silence.

At this time, I would like all of us to take a moment of silence and pray to God to help us to forgive and also to ask for forgiveness for sins. Ask God to give us strength to confess to him all of our sins. Take a minimum of 5 minutes and pray for this.

Now back to the show

Bible Study: Why Forgiveness is so vital to a Christian.

Do you know what the name Christian means? It literally means “little Christ”. We as Christians are to imitate Christ as much as possible.

If it’s possible, we would need to imitate him in every aspect, but of course we cannot do that because Christ is perfect and we could never be perfect.

Ephesians 5:1 actually states, “Be ye therefore followers of God, as dear children;”

That word “follower” means “imitator”.

Which means that we are to do the things that God does.

One of those things is to forgive people for their sins.

Jesus actually goes very far into the subject about forgiving other people by saying that we are to forgive people an infinite amount of times.

In a few verses I’ll show you that verse that says you’re supposed to forgive an infinite amount of times. It states it in Matthew 21-35, but first, I want to share with you this.

Matthew 6:14-15 states, “For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you:  But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.”

The importance here is that we are to let go of the sins that people do against us because that is the holy way that God designed it.

Here this parable that Jesus spoke in Matthew 18:21-35 it states, “Then came Peter to him, and said, Lord, how oft shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? till seven times? Jesus saith unto him, I say not unto thee, Until seven times: but, Until seventy times seven. Therefore is the kingdom of heaven likened unto a certain king, which would take account of his servants. And when he had begun to reckon, one was brought unto him, which owed him ten thousand talents. But forasmuch as he had not to pay, his lord commanded him to be sold, and his wife, and children, and all that he had, and payment to be made. The servant therefore fell down, and worshipped him, saying, Lord, have patience with me, and I will pay thee all. Then the lord of that servant was moved with compassion, and loosed him, and forgave him the debt. But the same servant went out, and found one of his fellowservants, which owed him an hundred pence: and he laid hands on him, and took him by the throat, saying, Pay me that thou owest. And his fellowservant fell down at his feet, and besought him, saying, Have patience with me, and I will pay thee all. And he would not: but went and cast him into prison, till he should pay the debt. So when his fellowservants saw what was done, they were very sorry, and came and told unto their lord all that was done. Then his lord, after that he had called him, said unto him, O thou wicked servant, I forgave thee all that debt, because thou desiredst me: Shouldest not thou also have had compassion on thy fellowservant, even as I had pity on thee? And his lord was wroth, and delivered him to the tormentors, till he should pay all that was due unto him.   So likewise shall my heavenly Father do also unto you, if ye from your hearts forgive not every one his brother their trespasses.”

You see the reason why Jesus speaks of forgiveness towards our enemies is that God forgave us of our ultimate sins and allowed us to have something that we were never supposed to have.

And yet, we think that we’re better than God by not forgiving someone who might owe us money? Or hurt our emotions one time? Or maybe even tried to hurt us?

We as Christians must forgive the people who trespass against us because the Lord is the one who will show mercy on us.

And I know that Jesus says to forgive 70 times 7, but imagine trying to count the times that you forgive someone, you would forget all the times that you counted trying to count 70 times 7.  Right? That’s the point, you are to forgive and forget.

And trust in God when I say that he rewards good things to the people that deserve it.

Hebrews 11:6 says so, it states, “But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.”

Actually I really needed to hear this. This just spoke out to me.

And you know what? God is not sarcastic. God is not unfaithful. God knows of the things that we want in this life and the next life.

So, if you diligently seek him, you can trust that God will reward you in this life and the next.

Trust in God that God will show up for the moments that you need him, trust in him.
