Hey everyone! So today, I’m going to share with you all some tips on how to market your Christian music.
Before we get into it, let’s have our moment of silence.
At this time, I would like all of us to take a moment of silence and pray to God to help us to follow him throughout all of our days. Take a minimum of 5 minutes and pray for this.
Now back to the show
Tips on marketing your Christian music
I could give you endless tips on how to market your Christian music based on where you live and what your goals are for your music career.
However, I must emphasize that nothing works in our lives unless it’s with God.
We must put our work and our passions, our interests on the Lord on high.
I know I’ve said this before and I will continue to say it on this blog.
The reason why I keep saying this is because there are actually good articles out there that will teach you how to make a fanbase for your music in a solid way.
And they will teach you good things.
But they will often lack something important, something that’s worth mentioning.
and that’s God.
God needs to be in the midst of all of our plans, otherwise nothing will work.
And I say this because for the longest time, I thought for myself that I didn’t need God to do the things in my life.
But after seeing a lot of my plans go downhill after just barely starting them.
I realized that the plans that I prayed for, eventually were blessed by God.
Everything from my musicianship, to this blog, to my pool ball, to my education.
Everything that I put in God’s hands is blessed by God.
So that’s my first bit of advice that I can’t stress enough on what to do when building a following.
Then comes the work aspect.
To God you pray and with the sledgehammer you hit hard
There’s a saying in my country and it says in English, “To God you pray and to the sledgehammer you hit hard.”
That means that while you pray to God, you must work hard at your dreams.
Work hard at your dreams and God will bless your faithfulness.
And I believe in this saying.
We have to believe in this saying because God is our blessing and our hands are the ways that God blesses us.
And then comes the technical aspect
Tips for general music career marketing
So it’s no shock that the music industry is interested in selling out shows and albums.
And in order to do that you need to make great music, that’s the first part about it.
You need to be making great music to make it as an artist.
Everything that you learn about music will come into play when you’re a musician.
But this music that you make, you have to be honest with yourself and say, “Does this really sound good?”
”Do I feel with this music?” “Does this music cause me to want to cry or dance or feel happy?”
If you don’t feel any sort of emotion when you’re writing a song, it’s really not a good song.
Because you should be making songs that make you want to feel.
So the first step is really learning about the song.
What makes a great song?
What makes a great hit?
You have to learn about the different parts of a song: the verse, chorus, bridge, intro, outro, solo, pre-chorus, etc. etc.
You have to know different theories of songwriting and how to apply them to the song that you are writing.
A good theory in pop songwriting is starting the melody low and ending high in the chorus.
That makes a really good pop song and it’s been used many times all throughout music.
So that’s first making music that is awesome.
The second thing that you should do is build a following.
Now I know that, that’s easier said than done, but trust me don’t overthink it.
For a blog and a YouTube channel, and I repeat don’t overthink this, it really is this simple.
All you have to do for a blog or a YouTube channel, and I mean 90% of the work is to just create good content.
That’s it.
Do not overthink it.
YouTube even has this thing called the YouTube creator studio where you can learn about this.
And WordPress.com, which is the largest blogging platform on the internet, has articles that talk about this.
You can look up this resources on their websites respectively.
And when you’re building a following for a music career.
I’m talking to all of the artists that want to get signed to a major label.
You should start off by trying to sell out to your local scene first and then try and sell out to the nation later on.
The reason why is because record labels look to see if you can sellout in a small area first.
Because the rule of thumb in the music industry is that if you can sell out in a small area, you can sell out in a large area.
So try and sellout to local venues first and then worry about the rest later on.
And that’s it, those are my music marketing tips, hope this helps some way.
