Hey everyone! So today, I’m going to share with you all how to market your music the old school way while using new school technology.

Let’s talk about it

Old School methods

So back in the day, things were a little different.

Some of the methods that I’m about to share with you are no longer common practice amongst musicians.

But some of them can still apply, and I will be sure to mention which ones apply and which ones don’t apply.

So let’s talk about it.

Performing a whole lot of live shows

So the way that musicians back in the day got rich and famous was that they performed a whole lot of shows in their local city and when they hit the big venues, there would be promoters there looking to sign you on to a record label.

And so right here we can take away a few things that we can still apply today.

The local venues and being able to sellout local shows is so vital even to the musician of today’s day and age.

And what happens is that we can have a following all across the world, but in reality, the test of time still stands true that if you can sell out in a small area first, then you can sell out in a large area next.

So, it’s important that we sell out local shows first.

And the second thing that we can take from this is that we need people to come to our shows.

And we can announce that we are performing by putting it on social media.

So here is how we mix new school technology with old school methods.

We perform a lot of shows and invite people to our social media.

So we do offline marketing by still performing shows, but we must invite people to our social medias so that they can grow.

And the thing with social media is that you should have content already on there in order to attract more and more people.

Not only does it look good to a record label the fact that you have a following on social media, but they actually look to see if you have a large enough following to sign you on.

The next thing you need to do

The next thing that you need to do is to put up your music on all streaming platforms.

And this is actually before you sign to a record label.

I know that sounds counterproductive.

But hear me out.

In this day and age, record labels actually want to see that you have sold albums already.

Because if you have already sold albums, that means that you can sell more albums.

They want to see streams and single sales.

They want to see that your music is marketable.

Of course they’re going to ask you for a demo and decide if they’re going to sign you by listening to your demo.

But the demo isn’t the only thing that matters when it comes to a record label.

It could be a really great song, but if it doesn’t sell, there’s no point in going any further.

And once you’re sharing your albums on your socials and getting views and listens, then you’ll thank your boy German for showing you the righteous path in the music industry.

Remember that for social media, it revolves around making content.

So on top of the fact that you have to make songs and perform shows, you have to make content on your social medias.

Don’t get intimidated by it because honestly, it’s well worth it.

When you can, try and schedule your posts ahead of time so that you’re always releasing new content.

It helps trust me.
