How to produce professional music?

Hey everyone! So today, I’m going to discuss how to produce music that sounds like it’s been done by a professional. 

Let’s get into it. 

Music producer 101, become a professional musician

So what happens is that the actually technical knowledge that you need doesn’t require much, you could in all reality, learn everything you need to know to produce music within like the first year of producing music. 

However, music is not one of those things where you just learn and forget about it. 

Because after you’re done learning all of those things, you really need to practice. 

And practicing the things that you’ve been taught, can take years to get down. 

Why? 

It’s because you should know that as musicians, we don’t play things until we get them right, we play them until we can’t get them wrong. 

So we do things until we can’t get them wrong.

We do things until it’s impossible for us to get it wrong. 

That’s just the nature of music. 

It’s really the nature of a lot of different things, but it’s especially true in music. 

So yes, you can learn music production, but the practicing part is what’s going to get you the most. 

How to practice

You practice something by doing it. 

It’s that simple. 

If you are playing a set of 8th notes on the guitar and you can’t seem to count it all the way through. 

You play the 8th notes until you get the correct feel for the music. 

That’s how you’re supposed to do it. 

And that’s the same way with other aspects of music. 

If you find that you are having trouble making drums on a DAW.

Practice making drums on a DAW.

There’s a little more to it than that, and I’m going to go over it right here, but yeah that’s how it’s done. 

How to practice on a DAW

It’s very important to practice on a DAW because that way you’ll have experience learning the skills necessary to record.

And the way that you get better at producing, the method that you’re supposed to use in order to actually start producing is by producing other peoples productions first. 

Yeah that’s right, if you want to get better at producing music, you have to take things that have been professionally produced, mixed, and mastered and recreate those things on your own. 

You could choose to skip a few things, but if you want the full benefit of doing everything that a producer is supposed to do, you will do your best to recreate absolutely everything in the song that you are recreating. 

And you don’t have to recreate the entire song at first, you might do it later on down the road, 

But at first, you might just want to recreate the chorus or the part that you really like. 

So say for example if you hear a bridge that you really like and you want to use that style of bridge in your productions, go ahead and recreate the bridge. 

There is merit to recreating the entire song, but that can be tedious.

Which is the reason why I say that when you first start out, just recreate the parts that you really like.

    I was looking through your blog and I really like some of your songs and your helpful blogs.       Hey man, I can’t get in contact with many people right now because quite frankly I’m just a one man team, but in the future I could probably do it. But if you have any music questions right here, ask all of the music questions you have right now and I’ll make a post about it and tag you as well. I might even include some videos.         So I am writing a Christian song. I can’t play like most worship music like the guitar and piano. During some songs, there is like a background soft ambience sound, how do musicians make that? I think it’s like a piano mode or some sort midi tracks. As of right now I am trying to get some chords in the key of C for the song to work and my friend who plays guitar is helping me a lot since I don’t know much about how chords work and stuff. Is there anything else I would like technical and non technical knowledge-wise and instrument-wise I need to make a full fledged song that could work as a worship song. Like specific piano modes or like ambience software or anything like that or just random noises or something to add to the song?

        So, I’m not sure what type of ambience noise you’re referring to. However, most ambience noises fall under two different categories. one is pads and the other is effects. A Standard DAW usually has really great pads and some pretty good effects in it too. You might have to dig around a bit in your DAW to find really great sounds. However there is a website called Splice that has really great sounds that the top producers of the world use. and it’s cheap, it’s like 8 USD a month. honestly man it takes a while to practice with this stuff for it to make sense. But basically chords serve to have like a foundation to create harmony and disonance. Harmony and sound alikeness and disonance is sound difference. Disonance makes emotion alikeness creates impact. but you need both. honestly man what you’re asking sounds a little too advanced for someone who doesn’t know what chords are but like you could really make a great song with just your friend and your voice. So like what you should do is just create an acoustic song with one guitar and play a 1-5-6-4 chord progression in the key of C which is C-G-Am-F and have your song playing that on repeat for the entire song. and what you should do is create whole notes and half notes starting with low pitches in the verses and then do high pitches and 8th notes and 16th notes in the chorus. It’s going to sound really good, that’s how I’ve seen a lot of worship songs formed. and trust me you’re going to like it. If you want you could listen to me on twitch tonight. I’m going to be making a song and it’s not going to be a worship song, but it’s going to contain a lot of the same elements of a worship song.
