Hey everyone! So today, I wanted to share with you all the importance of using a metronome and a click track in your recordings

Let’s get into it.

Why click tracks?

So what happens is that when you play music, it is almost certain that the musicians playing will either speed up or slow down from the original tempo of the song.

And not only that, but they will speed up and slow down on separate parts of the song so the song will sound all over the place.

The way that musicians keep the right beat, is that they use a click track.

Which in essence is a metronome.

When you are listening to a metronome you are able to identify where exactly the beat lands on so that way your rhythm is in sync and everyone in the band is playing the right things.

What about in recordings?

So in recordings, click tracks are important because when you use a click track, you are able to sync virtual instruments with acoustic instruments.

Therefore, you can now use the instruments that are on your computer and sync them with your acoustic guitar that you love to play.

Not only that, but you can record other instruments on top of each other, without having the acoustic noises bleed through microphones and into other sessions, thereby making the mixing portion of the song so much more easier.

So yes you can record with drums, bass, guitars, and vocals all at once, but in all reality, you should be in sound treated rooms for all of that to happen because the drums and bass make too much noise and the microphones from the guitars and voice will capture it if it’s not in an acoustically treated room.

If you were to record section by section, you would avoid that and recording section by section is best done with a click track.

Don’t get me wrong

Don’t get me wrong, there is a time and place for live takes.

Like if you’re trying to showcase your songwriting style then a live take will suffice.

But if you’re trying to showcase your bands productions and overall great recording techniques, then a click track is mostly essential.
