Hey guys! So today, I wanted to share with you all my worst gig story. You are going to be rolling your eyes at me at the end of this story. As always give glory to God that I never gave up even after this story, but yeah, Here it is
I had been recording at a studio
There is a big recording studio about an hour away from my house.
Over at that recording studio, they actually recorded some big artists such as Bruno mars, 50 Cent, Michael Jackson, they did a whole bunch of big artists and they are really inexpensive.
Well I shouldn’t say inexpensive because they do have some pretty hefty fines.
But they did have a package to rent out a room with an audio engineer for 90 dollars for 2 hours.
I took that offer and I booked the recording session.
We were literally in the basement.
We were literally in the room underneath the entire building. I remember it so clearly the doors creaked on the way inside, things were rusty, but once you got into the studio, it was a different world.
Everything was so modern, everything looked like something I had never seen before even though I’ve seen amps, and guitars, and microphones before, I had never seen a professional sound board, I had never seen what a DAW looks like in real life with all this equipment.
And I remember I had prepared the mess out of my song.
Like I knew that song back and forth and upside down.
and I knew it was a good song.
So we recorded the song.
I take it home, and I Just honestly showed it to a few of my friends and did a couple of other things too but that was it, it never went anywhere.
I remember the manager of that recording studio was so angry at me for no reason that meeting like as if though I was nothing.
Anyways, that ended that.
The second meeting
A few weeks later, I had prepared another song however, I knew this song wasn’t all that good,
It had some strong hooks and it was really catchy at first, but the ending was weak.
I knew it but I just had the itch to record it.
So I booked another 2 hour session with the same engineer.
And this time, he asked the manager to listen to me while I recorded.
Apparently the audio engineer liked my first song a lot.
So then the manager listened to me while i sang this song that was catchy but bad, I knew it was bad, there’s no way anyone could’ve liked the ending.
And afterwards, the manager asked me with a much softer and easier approach than last time, “Hey man, do you have a following on the internet?”
And I literally said no.
And he said, “You don’t have like a blog or anything?”
And I said no.
And he said, “Keep making music, and keep coming in here and we’ll talk about some things that we can do for you. And make a following on the internet.”
And I never went back with a following on the internet, but I always wondered what he could’ve done with my music.
The third meeting
I booked another recording session about another year after that one.
And the audio engineer liked it a lot too.
It was a different audio engineer.
The Fourth meeting
This different Audio Engineer, again called the manager to listen to my music.
And the manager was shocked and he said, “YOU ASKED ME TO LISTEN TO THIS GUY!!!!!!”
And he said yeah.
And so he listened again and he said, “Keep working man because you have something.”
I would be nothing if it weren’t for God
When I was a kid, I had prayed to God to make me a great musician.
And the fact that this is happening, is not because I’m great, or because I’m special, or that I’m talented, but it was because God gave me this talent.
The one who gave me wisdom years after years was God.
