Hey guys! So today, I wanted to share with you all some wisdom that I started to imply into myself just recently.

Let’s get into it.

MMA Thinking

So when I was 17 or 18, I wanted to start Cage fighting.

Some of you know it as MMA.

Some of you have seen it on T.V. Examples would include UFC.

and basically what MMA stands for is Mixed Martial Arts.

It’s basically Karate, Tae Kwon Do, Wrestling, Judo, Jiu Jitsu, Boxing, and whatever other martial art you can think of combined into one fight.

In this style of fighting, you can do almost anything within reason of course.

Of course there are still rules you have to follow, like no intent to cause permanent damage or destroy anyone.

But it’s basically all martial arts in one.

And what happens is that in order to do cage fighting, you first have to get good at one or 2 martial arts.

And what happens is that it was very peculiar the way that they learned these martial arts.

In my head, I was going to take kickboxing and Jiu JItsu at the same time.

But what happens is that the head coach said, “Honestly man what a lot of people do is that they get good at one martial art so they practice it for 2 years and then transition to the next martial art. While keeping a focus on the new martial art and dedicating less time into the previous martial art.” I literally asked him, “Why is that?” And he simply said to balance themselves. And he continued with, It takes a lot of time, effort, dedication, strength, and ability in order to compete in one of those fights, no one just wakes up one day and gets into a cage fight. It takes a lot of patience, time, ability, and quite frankly a lot of time getting knocked down and knocked out before getting into a cage fight.”

I knew this of course, the reason why I knew this is because I’ve done it before not in martial arts but in other things.

Basically anything that’s worthwhile in life, will take time, patience, sacrifice, it will take plenty of work and work that you might not like, work that will be difficult.

I remember my first day of that MMA practice they put me to do both the Jiu jitsu drills and the boxing drill on the same day.

I will never forget how tired I was at the end of that night.

I remember that For the first half of the hour long lesson, I wasn’t even throwing punches of the boxing drills, I was just learning how to step.

How to move about in the ring, How to do simple movements.

And then in the last half of the drills, I wasn’t hitting a punching bag, I was learning how to aim a punch. So they wrapped up my hands with boxing wraps, and said, “ throw one hundred punches with just the wraps, Throw one hundred punches with the gloves on, and then throw one hundred punches with these 5 lb dumbbells.”

I was 17 at the time and I was lifting weights, I will admit I looked kinda big, so I guess they thought I could take it cause apparently that’s the hard drill.

And I did it, but I will admit, I have never felt that much pain in my shoulders before.

I learned that day, that it takes a whole lot to be in a boxing match.

What happens is that they explained to me, “In a boxing match, you have to be able to keep your hands up and keep punching. This workout that you did even though it wasn’t fighting against someone, simulated defending yourself and attacking at the same time.”

I was so shocked to see what boxers start out with.

Because this drill took me a whole hour to complete. And it was exhausting.

But on top of all that after that day, my friends who were really good at wrestling and boxing and all of that explained to me the real work that I needed to do, because apparently I hadn’t even done anything yet.

In every Martial Art, it takes a great deal of cardiovascular strength in order to compete in fights.

Like They showed me the stats from science based websites.

There are 3 groups of people who have the strongest hearts

Runners, Cyclists, and Fighters.

The doctors conducting these tests examined many people and found out what each of them did and when I compared all of that to what my friends do in their workouts and practices I found out that it only makes sense.

So when you’re a fighter, guess what you have to do on a daily basis?

That’s right, it might suck, it might hurt, but you have to run.

And guess what you have to run for miles and miles and miles and if you’re tired of running, then you walk.

And guess what, you have to be really good at running.

I saw this article one time of how Floyd Mayweather trained, and he ran 6 to 7 miles daily at ridiculous speeds.

I think he completed 3 miles in like 15 minutes.

On top of that, it depends on the type of martial art that you do, but you also have to lift weights.

You don’t need to lift the heaviest of weights, but the facts do say, that fighters that include weightlifting into their workouts perform significantly better.

I personally knew of a Wrestler in high school and he was a district champ.

and he could bench 225 for 3 sets of 8 and squat 350 and deadlift like 315.

But I think I’m getting side tracked

My point wasn’t to go rambling about Martial Arts, even though I think it’s cool and I wanted to do it at one point.

What I was trying to talk about was the thought and the thinking behind how these MMA fighters train.

What happens is that just recently, I had a whole bunch of activities that I needed to do.

I had college, I had work, music, working out, and church all combined and I was doing my best to balance all of it and honestly, I think I short fused myself when I was doing this.

What happens is that I was at work and I was making good sales at my job.

I made good sales at my job, I work as a car salesman.

But the thing is that I was trying to do too much at the same time and I fell short on all of my goals just recently.

Like i even stopped writing in this blog and you guys know me, I write in this blog almost on a daily, I’ve stopped for almost a few months now.

I stopped college, I stopped music.

Honestly, I just really wanted to succeed at my job because it was providing for me at the time.

I guess with the pressure that my managers had put on me, and the pressures from everything else going on, I just fell.

This is where real champions are made

I fell, I admit that I fell, But i will not let that stop me from graduating college, I will not let that stop me from doing music, I will definitely not let that stop me from going to church, and I will not let that stop me from working out.

There’s a verse in the Bible and i want to share it with you guys. It’s very important that you know this verse because it will help when you are going through difficulties.

Proverbs 24:16 states, “A Just man fallen seven times, and riseth up again, but the wicked fall into mischief.”

If you fall, if you ever fall, get back up again, and again, and again, and never stop getting back up.
