Hey everyone! So I feel like there is something that should be said about being in the music industry. I feel like there is a big misconception about how to actually get signed to a record label.
Now personally me, I haven’t been signed to a major record label yet! However, I have done a lot of research of my own and based off of my own experience, documentaries, reading the internet, and books that I’ve read about famous musicians, I understand that the process is the same for everyone than it is for the next schmo.
Before we get into any of that, let’s have our moment of silence and pray for all of the things in our lives.
At this moment, I would like all of us to take a moment of silence and pray for all of the things in our lives. Take a minimum of 5 minutes and pray for all of the things in your lives.
Now back to the show
The process

I have done a lot of studying of the music industry and I see that it is a HUGE PROCESS in order to get signed to a major record label.
People like Justin Bieber, Taylor Swift, Ed Sheeran, etc. etc. all did a lot of things in common before they got signed to a major record label.
Let’s go over a few of those things first.
It all took time
Justin Bieber was putting videos on youtube of him doing covers for 5 WHOLE YEARS before he got signed to a major record label.
And then, when his manager got in contact with him, they started doing “radio tours” and they went and tried to get followers and fans by playing on the radio all over the country.
Which means that he still didn’t have the influence and power that he was supposed to have!
Taylor swift wrote 150 songs before she got signed to a record label. And she had already been touring the Nashville circuits for quite a while.
Ed Sheeran was another songwriter that wrote 150 songs before he got signed to a record label. And he was doing around 2 to 3 shows a day!! That’s an insane amount of work!! Do you know how hard it is to just do one show a week?!!?! And he did it every single day!!
And if you look at other musicians, you’ll see that it all took a lot of time and effort too.
Now these musicians might have done these things with less help of the internet than the rest of us because they did this right before social media started to blow up… however!
Hey guys! If you liked this blog post so far, be sure to check out my song that’s out now on all major streaming platforms. Here are the QR Codes to the song for Spotify, Apple Music, and YouTube music. However, if you want to stream it anywhere else, it’s out everywhere.
P.S. I did everything in the song myself including mixing, mastering, and artwork.

Now that you have the biggest social medias of the world at your fingertips, you have the advantage!
I often will say that you NEED to be active on social medias in order to survive in today’s music world.
And it’s true!
Therefore, there are some main concepts that you should know about all social medias because they work in a similar fashion, all of them.
- Content is king: Social Media’s need your content in order to survive. If they have no content, then they have no people looking at that social media. And the thing is that content needs to be fresh and new almost every single day in order for people to actually start to follow you. So, if you decide that you want to gain followers to a social media, then you need to be making new content and interacting with people on that social media.
- It’s all about communication: You have to learn how to communicate with people because then people will want to learn more about you and develop relationships with you. Some of you might be saying, “German that sounds like work and it sounds boring” but you need to be building relationships in order to survive in the music industry.
Try and sell on your own with little to not money spent on promoting first and then try and scale up from there
With the rise of social media, there are actually a lot of ways that you could actually promote your music. However, the free ways all require time and effort and consistency.
So it’s not a big deal because everyone really needs to go through the grind in order to really come out on top of any career.
Doctors have to push past 10 years of college in order to make great money.
Engineers do 7 years of work in order to make anything out of their profession.
and all other professionals really have to struggle to really get their professions going.
So don’t be scared of being patient and don’t be scared of the process because everything is a process when you really work hard at it.
